After updating Ubuntu Budgie from 19.04 to 19.10, I can no longer open my KMyMoney file.

Code: Select all
The following error is returned when KMyMoney is opened:
File <path>/file.kmy contains the old binary format used by KMyMoney. Please use an older version of KMyMoney (0.8.x) that still supports this format to convert it to the new XML based format.  /build/kmymoney-4wARR0/kmymoney-5.0.6/kmymoney/plugins/xml/xmlstorage.cpp:183

Where can I find a version that old; or is there a way to convert the format offline? I started using KMM on version 4.x.x and was on 5.x just prior to updating the O/S, so it seems really odd that I'd need something vastly older to fix the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

I use Neon so still based on 18.04 LTS.
However I've been happily using the KmyMoney appimage for months which is regularly updated - may be a temporary solution to your problem.#
Find it here https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/KMyM ... age_Build/

I doubt that you came such a long way. Any KMyMoney version of 3.x or later should provide a file that can be read with the latest versions. Could it be that the file is corrupted? What does the file utility tell you about the file contents? Info about the AppImage can be found on the KMyMoney web-site.

Using Appimage resulted in the exact same error.

Results from file commands:
Code: Select all
$ file file.kmy
file.kmy: data

$ file -i file.kmy
file.kmy: application/octet-stream; charset=binary

It's always possible the file is corrupt, but the only thing that changed since the last use (a day earlier) was the update of Ubuntu. Also, the file is not on the same drive as the OS.
I don't have disk issues nor are any other files on that drive having problems. I've got a pre-update image I can restore to see if that's the case; but I was hoping to avoid all that.

Thanks

It appears the upgrade corrupted the file. I was able to restore the backup just beforehand without losing too much data. Thank you all for your input.
