I have the same problem as this writer posted back in 2013. His question was answered, but I could not understand the answer. Anyone can help?

"just started using kmymoney and an trying to do a reconcile of my checking account after the first month of use. upon starting up reconcile, i get to the screen with the starting balance and it is zero. the field is also greyed out so it is not possible for me to enter a starting balance. i entered the ending balance of the previous months statement as my starting balance when i created the account. any help...ideas...comments...fixes? In your case "i entered the ending balance of the previous months statement as my starting balance when i created the account" you should see a first transaction as "opening balance" transaction. The amount should represent the starting balance of your current statement. Change to the ledger and check the column marked C on the left of the amounts. It seems that the opening balance transaction either has no entry in that column or a C itself. Right click on that transaction and select "Mark transaction ... as reconciled" to change the C into an R. Then repeat the reconciliation of your statement.

Behind the scenes, KMyMoney adds up all transactions marked R to calculate the starting balance for the reconciliation process. In your case, it seems there are no such transactions and the starting balance remains zero.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much. I went back and replaced all the C's with an R. But when I go to reconcile, the ending balance is correct, but the starting balance is still grayed out. Is there a Plan B?

The starting balance being grayed out (disabled) is by design ;) Once you reconciled for the first time the starting balance should change to the ending balance of your last statement. Maybe, we need to adjust the logic when an opening balance has been provided. I will take a look into that.
