I'm new to KMyMoney and added an (investment) account then tried to delete it...I followed the directions in the pdf:
6.5 Deleting accounts To delete an account, first remove all the transactions from that account in the ledger. Next, find the account in the accounts view and after right clicking on the entry to show the popup menu select Delete account... from the popup menu. If you are unable to delete an account which looks like it has no transactions in it, check your filter. See Settings! Configure KMyMoney! General! Filter. Clear all filters. Set the start date to 1.1.1900 or so. There may be transactions in your ledger that are not shown, for example, if you have inadvertently typed in the wrong year when making an entry so that an entry remains outside the opening date of KMyMoney. This appears beneath the ledger page as remaining funds. but the "delete" option is grayed out...what am I missing? thanks |

Never mind...I had inadvertently created a sub-account that needed to be deleted first.

I have the same problem. THere is an account that does not have ethe option to delete (greyed out). It has no transactions and has no sub-accounts.
How do I force a delete of an empty account? I found out why. Apparently there were securities in investments that stay somehow attached to the account even when all transactions are deleted. I deleted the securities. This ungreyed the menu option to delet the account, but it returned an errormessage. I then saved the file, closed KMyMoney, then restarted and I could now delet the account. Woo Hoo! |

I have an account I cannot delete, went through all the suggestions of the previous posts but nothing is working. It is a now a completely empty liability account that originally imported from my quicken qif for my house mortgage - however I moved out all the transactions, it is now completely empty and there are no references to it anywhere that I can find, even set date back to 1/1/1900 to be sure no transactions might have been goofed up somehow. Meanwhile the delete is still grayed out. Its not an ultra critical issue, the account is empty and doesn't affect any functionality, its just an irritation.

Looks like I'm having the same problem as others:
I have read the documentation at https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kmymone ... elete.html and I have deleted all the transactions that I can, and have checked the filter settings. Nothing remains in this account except for an "Online Statement Balance" which I can't seem to delete (I have tried "Move transaction to" and "Mark transaction as" without any effect). The account type is marked as Checking (under Assets), but it's really a Credit Card (hence, my trying to delete it). Normally, this isn't a problem, but when I try to import transactions into the actual account, they end up showing up in this account (despite this one being closed and the actual one being open). What else can I do to delete this account? |

Here are a couple of suggestions you can try:

The account was not mapped (when the account is open, I can map it, but not unmap it).
I have deleted the customized reports (the account still shows up in the default reports, and when I customize those, then it creates a new custom report) and I have no schedules. Still can't delete the account. Any ideas? One idea would be if the developers could include some information about what is preventing the account from being deleted. |

This may not be related, but if you open the open the account in the Ledgers tab, and the "Close account" button is grayed out, you can mouse over that button and the hover text should tell you why the account can't be closed. I'm not sure, but this sounds similar to the issues in this thread.

In fact, that is related. In case you don't find that button (like me), open Settings/Configure toolbar and drag/drop the Close account action from the left pane to the bottom of the right pane. Then press OK and the button will appear in the toolbar at the top of the application window. Now hovering over the button shows a tooltip with the reason why the account can't be closed.

Thanks. I have been able to close the account without any problem. I just haven't been able to delete it.
This is an issue because when importing transactions for a different account, the transactions end up in this account, even though it has been closed. Any other ideas? |

Just solved this after a few hrs on-off through last couple of days, thanks to this post.
PROBLEM: Could not close or delete an Asset account. SOLUTION: 1) As suggested above, I checked for the reason I could not close the account. - Selected the account (Accounts (left nav) > Asset > <name-of-account>) - No button/icon on toolbar for me to hover mouse over - Hovered moused over Account (top nav) > Close account - Info dialog stating that, "All subaccounts must be closed before the account can be closed." 2) Deleted subaccounts - Went to Investments (left nav) > <account-name> - Selected each of the shown accounts, right-clicked, and selected "Delete investment..." 3) Delete Asset account - After deleting all listed subaccounts, I went back to Accounts > Asset > <name-of-account> - Right-clicked on it and the option to "Delete account" was now available. |
