I'm using KMyMoney in Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. I would like to back-up my .kmy file to a network attached Iomega Home Media Network Harddrive. When I use the <file><backup> option I am asked to choose the location for the backup, but the NAS device is not listed. I can write files to that device manually, outside KMyMoney, by browsing to an address like "smb://192.168.x.y/share-name", but I do not understand how to specify that in the backup dialog.
Any advice ? |

Hi, I don't have a nas but can you somehow do a linux mount of this smb ?

This drive is already mounted as the result of entering the "smb://..." address in the location box (just below the menu bar in Nautilus). But, as previously stated, it does not appear in the list of available locations when attempting to choose a backup location |

When I access Wikipedia to learn about KDE I read that the Linux environment is a key target for KDE applications. I am therefore somewhat surprised that there does not seem to be enough knowledge of how KMyMoney works under Linux works to be able to answer my original post in this thread.
Is there any advice about which alternative forum would be more lively to have the requisite knowledge? |

In case it is mounted, it must be visible as part of the file system tree. You may use the mount command on the console to find out the location the drive has been mounted to. This may vary between various distros and versions. Use the absolute path to this location to store the backup.

Thanks for the clarification. I've reached the limits of my understanding: the share appears to be mounted: if I 'right click' on the share name in my chosen file browser (Nautilus in Mint) then I have the option to 'unmount' it, implying to me that it is mounted. But it does not appear in the file system tree that is displayed when I select 'choose' (to define a backup location) in the backup dialog. The mount also does not appear when I invoke 'mount' in a console, it also does not appear within /proc/mount. This is clearly a Linux matter, not an issue for KMyMoney so I have to give up on my attempts to resolve this, being beyond my limit of understanding. I think this thread should be closed now, as not applicable to KMyMoney. |
