Hi everybody,
I have two laptops, one with Linux (Neon) and one with Windows 10. On both machines I use KMyMoney, with a datafile that is sychronised on both machines through a cloud storage (Mega). KMyMoney version on the Linux machine is 5.0.8. KMyMoney version in de Windows machine was 4.8. This worked well for a long time. A few days ogo I upgraded KMyMoney on the Windows machine to version 5.06 (the most recent Win version). Since then I cannot open the datafile on the Windows machine anymore. When I open the administrion I get en error-message "Cannot open requested file" . When I press the button "Details" there is an empty message. There is nothing in the KMyMoney log and in the Windows logs. On the Linux machine all goes well: I can load the aministration, do my accounting and write the file to disc. No problems at all. I tried several things: copy the file by hand from the Linux machine to the Windows machine, unzip the file and open it as an XML file, made a backupo file and try to open tah, etc., but nothing works. I don't use encryption (as far as I know). Help!!! Marcel |

There was a fix to a specific problem in 5.0.8 which solved a similar (if not the same) issue. Check this forum post and following for detailed instructions what to do to analyze the problem. Also, when you get the error message you mention, try to enlarge the window vertically to make the details visible. They should tell us what is going on in detail, as the name says.
As it seems, your file is not encrypted, since you unzipped it and looked at XML structures.

Thank you for this suggestion.
I followed the instructions in your message, but unfortunately it didn't help. I have 10 backup files ("kmy.~") and opened all of them, but they all give the same error:
In the (expanded) error window there is no further information . Like you suggested in your post from Dec 21 I unzipped the main file and inspected it with xmllint. There were no errors or clous whatsoever. This happened all on the Windows machine, as I said on the Linux machine (KMyMoney 5.0. all goes well with this file. Further more I rolled the KMyMoney version on the Windows machine back to 4.8 and all went well, no problems opening the file. I saved the file in 4.8, then I switched back tot 5.0.6 and I could't open it, the error was there again. Apparrently the problem only arises in Win 5.0.6., not in Win 4.8 and also not in Linux 5.0.8. Any clou? |

I am not a Windows expert. Does using a newer Windows version make a difference? It can be found on KDE's binary factory build daily fresh from the source.

As you suggested I installed the latest dayly build Win version ( 5.0.8-8024818f8). This version imports the file without problems
So it seems that de problem is associated with Win version 5.06 only. |
