Thanks for the program under a free open source license! Added a program to a Russian-language site about free software, here is the link https://xn--90abhbolvbbfgb9aje4m.xn--p1 ... D0%B2.html.
No more build versions for Windows? |

Same question - are windows updates gone??? I just got so fed up with quicken now forcing a subscription. Its nuts when I use so little of its full capability - I just like to track our household expenses and have a handful of categories I can filter a report come tax season just to compare to the standard deduction. So I started hunting for a replacement and got frustrated by a few others - GnuCash is really good but I do not need accounts for everything like a business so its a bit overkill. Then tried homebank and moneymanagerex which both seemed buggy or lacking in functionality. Finally came across kMymoney and have been super thrilled - it takes some fiddling to get around some glitches like with the mortgage setup and inability to delete empty accounts. But overall, very happy and would be happy to donate if the windows version is going to be updated, so maybe some dev can chime in and let us know.

Hi again, ipwizard. Yes, a nightly stream of builds, but specifically, GPG encryption in KMyMoney in Windows? I don't know where to look here to find out if it's actively being pursued. I echo comments above - I've evaluated several paid-for solutions (Banktree, AceMoney...), but KMM is the best replacement I've found for M$ Money.

I'm going with dunbankin...For me KMM is also the best solution. Especially because Homebank is really bad lacking...which can annoy a lot. |

The KMyMoney Handbook gives a general description about using GPG encryption. To access the settings, you have to go through a few levels of menus. That is described here. It is also necessary to have GPG installed and running, otherwise the settings in KMyMoney will be grayed out. Windows users can download the GNU Privacy Guard here.

Hello? Can anybody advise please? I'm on Win 10. I can't get GPG encryption working in KMyMoney. The latest version of GPG4Win is definitely installed, and kleopatra shows my key. This is the output of "gpg --version":
Is there something else I should be doing? GPG still isn't working in KMyMoney v5.1. Following this, I found a reference in 2018 to saving my data file as .xml file type, not .kmy, so I did a "File / Save as...", and chose .xml from the file types list. Then closed the file, restarted KMM with the .xml data file, and went to the XML plug-in control panel, but "Enable GPG encryption", is still greyed out. Tearing my hair out here - can somebody please help? John |

VeraCrypt is a free open source disk encryption software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The Beginner's Tutorial is here.
The download page has two portable versions for Windows users. One is for Windows 8 and later. The other is for Windows XP, Vista, and 7. There is also VeraCrypt Portable. It is a package that includes both versions and automatically switches between them.

dunbankin: before you lose all your hair: saving as XML will not magically make GPG work with KMyMoney. I am not in a position to make GPG work on your computer (not too Windows knowledgeable and don't want to become it) but I can help you to get access to your data (unencrypted, though).
Use GPG4Win to decrypt the file manually. That should be possible. Name it something.xml because GPG will leave you an XML formatted text file which you can load into KMyMoney. There is one confinement though: KMyMoney still knows that this file orginally was stored encrypted and it will try to save it encrypted again when you simply save it, which does not work since you have no GPG support in KMyMoney on your system. In this case, use the Save as... function once and store it as .kmy (which is unencrypted but at least compressed). In the following use that .kmy file and store it on an encrypted drive as proposed in the previous comment. Hope that helps.

Thanks Stephen and ipwizard for your responses. But as far as I can see, GPG4Win *IS* working on my PC - have a look at the output of the "gpg --version" command that I posted on Sep 14 above. And kleopatra shows my key. But KMM doesn't. How do I connect my working GPG installation to my working KMM installation?? Who (and how and where) do I need to ask? Should I raise it as a bug report somehow? It *used* to work in v4.x (once I'd created a key in GPG, KMM automatically saw it and offered to use it), and now it doesn't in v5.1....
BTW, I did the File/Save as... bit already, so I have all my data ok, just unencrypted. Regards John |

Further info, after I just found ipwizard's post in https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=166453#p433614:
This is the output of gpg-agent:
...so that's all ok, but what's a "pinentry" program, and where do I get one? Regards John |

Check https://www.gnupg.org/documentation/man ... tions.html and search for the description of --pinentry-program filename

Thanks. Just checked - there is a program "C:\Program Files (x86)\Gpg4win\bin\pinentry.exe". So it's all present and correct, BUT:
When I re-checked typing "gpg-agent" in a command prompt window, I got a different message to last time:
The same message whether KMM is running or not. Confused. Any ideas? Regards John |

Thanks for the suggestion, Stephen. The first attempt produced:
Then I fired up kleopatra and tried again:
So kleopatra seems to be a pre-requisite for gpg-agent to be running - ok, I can create a script to run kleopatra before running KMM if necessary. But "Use GPG enryption" is still greyed out in KMM's XML Storage plug-in control panel. I don't understand all the GPG stuff - how it all works. There's something else preventing it from working in KMM. Is GPG encryption simply not supported in KMM for Windows, so the developers have purposefully deliberately greyed it out because it's too difficult to solve whatever is preventing it from working? If only there were a KDE Developer handy who could advise me....? ![]() Do I need to create a bug report in order to raise the issue? Regards John |
