Probably a very silly question!
I have this set to save 10 backups and selected auto-save on closure. The manual says that "Any backup files will be stored in the same folder as the main file" but even with "view hidden files" I cannot find any. ( I have tried toggling "auto-save during use" in case there was a conflict but with no luck). Hoping the answer isn't too obvious/embarrassing! Sorry, but I am unable to duplicate this. The only time no backup is written for me (and it is always in the same directory as the file was opened in) is, when I switch the number of backups to zero. If I set it to e.g. 10 it starts doing its job upon the next save operation. This is with a local installed version exactly the same as with the appimage (the one you used). Please check the setting of "General/Global/Number of backups to keep" to differ from 0.

I have it working !! but not sure why/how! I tried KMM 5.0.0 on another PC with a testfile.... within the Mint File Manager, I selected <ViewHidden Files>,, but there were none. I then noticed a File Manager menu option for <View BackupFiles>.... and there they were!! I then returned to the original PC and did the same thing... and there the files were!! So, problem solved ... in a way. As always, thanks for your prompt help!! Tony |
