WebConnect and importing issues in 5.0.0

Hi -

I have been using KMyMoney for a few years and generally it goes really well. For the past 6 - 12 months however, I have been experiencing problems with the web connect function. When I download from my bank, the transactions are entered into KMyMoney. Then, it freezes and crashes. This happens on all accounts. I then need to download, save as a file, and import the transactions.

I also notice on savings accounts that I can't download or import at all as when it gets to the Account Selection step, the dropdown to choose which account to Import Transactions to doesn't allow me to select anything.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn't change these problems. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I've been experiencing similar problems over the past year. Unlike Zak, the problem is intermittent so I've been unable to nail down a pattern although for me, it seems credit card accounts cause the bulk of failures.

I'm currently using KMyMoney Version 5.1.0-dd6483fcd on a Windows 10 PC.

I just experienced a failure while updating details for a credit card. Steps taken are as follow;

  • Start KMyMoney
  • Log into banking service, select account then download statement.
  • Account data loads but before KMyMoney can open the transaction import window, it crashes.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the financial institutes file as if KMyMoney is restarted and the downloaded file imported, the import works fine.

Are there any log files that can be reviewed to determine why the application is crashing

Try running kmymoney from command line. There might be more detailed information written out to console.

Am I correct that both of you are using the built-in OFX import?

Zak - for the savings account, if you save the file, can you then import it? That might be a separate issue from the crash. Also, can you upgrade to 5.1?

rblackwell - can you be more specific about the steps in your third bullet?

I'll run KMyMoney from the command line, look for detail in console and windows logs then report back here the next time the application crashes.

Correct - I'm using the OFX import.

The best I can offer for the third bullet is;
  • KMyMoney is open on the desktop. ledger page in view. Not necessarily to the account I'm updating transactions for.
  • I then open a Chrome Browser and log into Credit Card account (Visa or Master Card, depending on which account needs to be updated)
  • Still using Chrome, I select "Download Transactions".
  • The credit card application compiles its data then starts the download to my PC, to the Downloads directory to be specific.)
  • My PC is setup to open downloaded files using the application associated with the file type. In this case, being an OFX file, that is KMyMonry
  • Once the download completes, I assume the PC instructs KMyMoney to import the file. It's at this point that KMyMoney crashes.

I'm running;
- Windows 10 Pro, Build 19042
- KMyMoney Version 5.1.0-dd6483fcd

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply ostroffjh.

I just ran kmymoney from the command line. I have pasted what appears to be relevant info below. Let me know if there are others things to look for.

WebConnect: Try to Connect to WebConnect server
WebConnect: Connect to server failed
WebConnect: Running in server mode

Then:
KBankingPlugin: No AqB4 config found
KBankingPlugin: No AqB3 config found

Then:
Couldn't start kuiserver from org.kde.kuiserver.service: QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown", "The name org.kde.kuiserver was not provided by any .service files")

Then:
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile.

Everything else seems to look okay.

Regarding the savings account...no, I have the same issue whether attempt to download direct....I can't download or import at all as when it gets to the Account Selection step, the dropdown to choose which account to Import Transactions To doesn't allow me to select anything.

Thanks again for replying....and please let me know if there is anything else you need. I look forward to your thoughts.

Zac,
All those messages look like warnings to me, not errors.
I'm wondering if the OFX file provided for the savings account identifies itself as for an account of a different type - and KMM balks because you don't have an account of that type. Take a look at the file in any text editor to see if anything looks strange.

Both - does KMM simply disappear with no error message of any sort? Especially from command line, I would expect to see some message or backtrace.

Hi ostroffjh -

just tried downloading again from a checking account. Chose to download as QFX (OFX not an option). Everything working fine until time close the last box after info has been downloaded into ledger. I then get the following error:

QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 4721, resource id: 20986534, major code: 40 (TranslateCoords), minor code: 0

Then it crashes. Then:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

The box that comes up about it closing unexpectedly gave me a big report in the details. Can't copy and paste so wondering if you could let me know what info would be helpful. I saved 2 screenshots, but can't see how to include them here.

Regarding the savings, it saves it as a QFX. I opened it with a text file, but wasn't sure what info would look strange. Any suggestions on where to focus?
The download box says "KMyMoney cannot determine which of your accounts to use. You can create a new account by pressing the Create button or select another one manually from the selection box below." Then, if I try to select one, the dropdown does drop down to show any options. It is blank and unclickable.

I also noticed this in the console: No text-to-speech plug-ins were found.

Thanks!

QFX and OFX are functionally equivalent. One is formally defined by Intuit (Quicken) and the other by the Open Financial Exchange consortium.

As a temporary workaround, try creating a new file for the import. I'll have to go digging into some sample OFX/QFX files to see if I can find where account type might be indicated.

The box after the seg fault is probably a backtrace, but won't be useful unless you use the debug version of KMM, so we can wait a bit to see if we really need it. Also, does the backtrace not also come out on the console if run from command line?

I have been running only from the command line today. Box was from that, but I have also seen it when not run from the command line.

I just tried creating another account from the Create button. After it was done, it brought me back to the box to select an account and I was not able to do that. I tried to create an account separately to see if it was the account issue and it crashed.

@zakubuntu: I may have lost track which version you are using. The empty account combo box may have been fixed in a newer version as this seems to be related to the bugs 396225 and 392305 which were both fixed in 5.0.4. Bug 396831 fixed a crash during web-connect in 5.0.3.

Thanks ipwizard! I am currently using 5.0.0, so I have hope that maybe updating will help. However, the other poster, rblackwell, is using 5.1 and is having similar issues that were fixed in 5.0.3. But....they are using Windows and I don't know if that would affect things.

I went to https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/KMyM ... age_Build/ and saw I can download the latest version. Is that the only version available? Is 5.0.4 still available somewhere? I am using lubuntu, if that matters.

Unfortunately, older appimage versions are not available anymore. But you are safe to use the latest 5.1 from that page with your file. Make sure to keep a backup just to remain on the safe side. And yes, Windows is a different story at that point. I am not sure though, if using the AppImage version supports Web-Connect.

P.S. I deleted your duplicate post.

Thank ipwizard. It sounds like from what you are saying that the new version on AppImage might not fix the WebConnect issue on Linux-based machines, is that correct? If so, do you know if there is a version available somewhere else that will allow it? Or maybe you were referring to Windows?

I really appreciate your help and am having hope that this will work.

Almost, I just don't know if the AppImage version supports Web-Connect at all (I may have to try that myself). If it does, the fixes may help. If it does not you need an installed version. The alternative is to install a package for your distro (I must have missed which one you use) or building it yourself (which will require a bit of knowledge how to do that).

As a long time '*nix kid' I would only recommend MS-Windows if there is really no other alternative around :D
