First I would like to thank all contributors to this great software. Been happily using it for the past 5 years.
I was always able to troubleshoot, learn, and fix issues using Ninja level GoogleFu however after 2 weeks (summary below) I'm now stuck and need some assistance.

Platform:
OS: Windows 10 19641.630
KMM: 5.0.6 and GPG on

Problem:
Sometime between the last week of Dec 2020 and the First week of 2021 the Account update function of the mapped online accounts stopped working.
As well, probably a coincidence, my quotes from the Yahoo API also stopped working.
Initially, I thought it is probably a temporary thing and figured things will go back to normal, however, I'm still unable to update mapped accounts nor stock prices.

Symptoms:
Mapped accounts (ofximporter): when I click the update account button, I'm presented with the password prompt, after entering the password, the progress windows pops-up and I can see it contacting the back however the progress bar is stuck at 33%. It stays there till I decide to close the window.
Update stock and currency prices: when I click the update all button, I can see it fetching the URL and the progress bar activates, but it is stuck at 5%. It stays there till I decide to close the window.

Troubleshooting so far:
Mapped accounts: I unmapped one of the accounts and tried to remap it again, however, when I select ofximporter the 'loading banklist' window pops-up connecting to ofxhome with the progress bar at 0% and it stays there till I decide to close the window. Unable to remap account.
Update stock and currency prices: not much to do here except try the URL through the browser and I can confirm it functions as it delivers the JSON in the browser.
New file: I created a completely new data file without GPG and tried to map accounts and stock pulls with the same negative results above.
Different machine: I suspected that maybe the current machine I'm using might be interfering, so I installed 5.0.6 on an older windows 10 laptop with the same results.
Different OS: I started suspecting a Windows 10 issue, so I created a virtual box with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and KMM 5.0.1-2 and happily I learned that my KMM file can still be updated.

So, I am not sure at this point where to track down and fix my issue on the Windows machine, and I certainly want to avoid jumping between a virtual box and windows.

I'm happy to try any suggestions the community might have to track this down, and I'm bracing to expect something blatantly obvious as a solution! :D

Many thanks.

I don't think I can help with your problem. but as a point of reference I have working quotes being fetched from FT and Morningstar in v5.0.0.

These are two separate issues (OFX update/mapping and online price update) which popped up at the same time coincidentally and have nothing to do with each other.

Online transaction download using mapped accounts: I suspect some changes at your bank requiring some sort of additional authentication or information which was not needed last year and which may not be covered/provided by the KMyMoney version you use. We've seen these in the past. I am not an OFX specialist. Maybe others can give advice here. Also, check for hidden windows in the background waiting for input.

Account mapping: Remapping the account sticking at 0% may also be caused by window hidden in the background. Check for that by moving the some windows away from the center of the display. You may also check a newer version of KMyMoney (current 5.1.1) since a few fixes esp. for Windows were added after 5.0.6. You can get the daily build stable version from the KDE binary factory. We have some reports about problems with GPG so you may try it with an unencrypted file. It would also be nice to know, if you can get it to work with GPG. Hint: try this on that secondary computer system you were referring to. To monitor what is going on, you can also enable the OFX logging feature. See Settings/General/Support for the options.

Price updates: KMyMoney prints a bit of log information which is usually visible when you start it from within a terminal window but not so on MS-Windows. You need to install MS Sysinternals DbgView tool to make them visible. Check if you can get some more information out of the output and what it is doing/waiting for.

If you can provide detailed information about links you try to access and settings you use for the price update it might help to analyze/solve the problem.

I have the same set up and the same problem. I would also add i can't even download a bank list trying to set up anew account. So it appears there is no communication.

I also made sure the program is allowed through the fire wall, still no help.

so, following this thread
thanks

I just tried to map an account on a Windows-PC and see this on screen. It would explain, why you experience a hangup scenario. Does it help to remove that local ofx-bank-index.xml file before you start the mapping process? BTW, once I hit the overwrite button things continue to work.

I made a change to always overwrite the destination file. This should be available on the KDE binary factory as build 898 on Jan 19th. Let's see if that makes any difference.

i had the file populated because i gave up and went back to 4.8.2. I deleted it and reinstalled 5.0.6 just to try this and it doesn't even create the file.

at this point i'm just going to keep using 4.8.2, it works like a champ!

Oh, 5.0.6 was broken on Windows in this respect. That got fixed in 5.1.0 (see bugtracker entry) and release notes.

The fix I made seems to make a difference. Here the list of banks pops up after a few seconds after they were freshly downloaded. No more asking if the previous file should be replaced.

I got snagged by this when I downloaded what I thought would be the safest version, hehe. But after seeing this, I quickly changed to a later version, but I'm having trouble with getting OFX from Fidelity [https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=173191]
