Year end archive feature?

Tue Mar 02, 2021 1:05 am
I have bee a quicken used for decades. I'm trying to switch to KMyMoney. Does this package have a year-end feature to separated and archive the old year from current? If not, what is the best procedure to do this in KMymoney?

KMyMoney does not have a year-end archive feature. This feature is needed in Quicken to keep it running fast when there's large databases. Some people that run KMyMoney that have a transactions database 3 times bigger than mine without any performance issues like you'd see with Quicken. I personally converted to KMM from Quicken and have data/transactions that go back to 2015 and I have never seen any performance issues. I really enjoy KMM better than Quicken and I have never looked back. It's simply a great product with a responsive development team if you have any issues. Basically you don't have to archive with KMM.

Thanks for the response. I am making the transition from Quicken because I refuse to use subscription software. That said, I've bee using it from 1998 and have it set exactly like as I want. KMM works but has a rudimentary UI in comparison. I've made adjustments in fonts, colors, etc., but still not fond of the look. I hope hope that will be improved someday.

At any rate, I do archiving not because of performance issues, but because I want my years in separate files. I'm assuming the way to do this in KMM is to crate a new file for all accounts at the beginning of the year? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Feel free to post suggestions for improvements. Since we all use KMM regularly, most of us have no exposure to how competition does things, but people like yourself, who recently switched, do.
