I have quite a few accounts in KMM, however only about eight are active. The main page shows all of them, and so I'm wanting to import some old QIF files , balance the accounts, and then close off the ones I don't use now. The exports are from MSMoney around June 2009. Has KMM's expectation of the QIF format changed since then ?
A lot of the QIF files have the categories at the start of the files. What are the consequences if I edit out all those categories at the start of each QIF file ? Meaning, will KMM pause and give a message and ask me if I want to add a category ? I doubt there are many at all that won't be there, as most of these old accounts had transactions from other accounts. When I tried the imports a few years ago, I was able to manually check after the import. Meaning, the export from KMM was always sequential and I could easily check and also pick up any import errors very easily. Now I notice the KMM data file is not always in the same order. I think the reason for that was a security issue, yet now I cannot really check as the KMM file/s , on output after the export, and not in the same order/sequence as prior to the import. Any suggestions there please ? Also what is the best method to deal with the double entry transactions ? Meaning in most accounts, there will most likely "already be" the other side to the balancing equation.

Have exported a QIF file for one account and compared that to the old exported QIF from MSMoney. Some date format changes ..
Old - D01/09'04 New - D09.01.2004 This may be just a setting on the QIF profile to modify ? There are a lot of transactions missing, meaning the 'Beyond compare' old<-->New has many sections of differences. yet that is expected, as some of the transactions for that account would have been loaded/imported via other accounts. What is the "N5" transaction ? It appears within a transaction set in the old/MSMoney QIF file, yet is missing in the new KMM export ?? There are others like 'N9' and 'N12' ?
