I currently have an investment account with matching brokerage account. Inside are two investments. I've been successfully adding shares for years using a scheduled transaction that places money from checking into the brokerage and then additional scheduled transactions to buys the shares using the money in the brokerage account. I now want to add a third investment using a sale of shares from an existing investment. I assume this will be two transactions, one to sell shares back to the brokerage and the second to buy the new shares. I've already added the new investment; however when I attempt to enter the sale of shares from the investment account the only button available (even after completing all entry fields) is Cancel. I then thought maybe I have to do this from the brokerage account. However, from that ledger I don't have any of the investment transaction options; just the standard withdrawal, deposit and transfer. If I open one of the entries created by the scheduled transactions it shows it as a transfer, with activity = "investment name (Buy)", transfer to: "Investment Transaction". Clicking the Split button opens the update price window. If I try to create a new transaction from the brokerage, I have none of these options. What am I doing wrong?

Reading through your problem description it seems you are doing things right. Before we go into the details, can you tell us which version of KMyMoney and which operating system you are using? TIA.

I tried to duplicate your problem. As soon as I have selected a security, a number of shares greater than 0 and a price/share greater than 0 the Enter button is enabled. I did not find any obvious change that would fix that after 5.1.0 has been released, but you never know. You can try to download the latest stable AppImage version of KMyMoney. It is build daily from the stable sources (so it contains all the fixes that we have added), comes as a single file and you can run/keep without uninstalling your 5.1.0. It is the version that I have tested this with. See the download page for an explanation of the steps necessary to make it running on your system.
Hope that gets you further. Let us know about the outcome, please.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I'm happy to say today I was able to enter investment transactions with the existing version. Sadly, I don't have an answer for what is different now or what may have been wrong to begin with. I did run a cleanup of apt autoremove, so maybe there was a problem with a library it resolved. Then again, it may have been a PEBKAC error.
Have a great day! |
