Adding an Existing Portfolio

Sat May 01, 2021 2:20 pm
Adding investments to existing account

I created an account called Shares and this account records Dividends – transferring these to SavingsAccount as soon as they are received. It is also used to cope with buying and selling shares where the costs and proceeds are ‘fiddled’ into or from the Current Account.
This has ‘worked’ since the early days of Kmymoney when I used to package the code for Thomas Baumgart.
Like the rest of us I have got older since then so has my vestiges of a brain.
The immediate result of this is a warning notice that I do not have a valuation for the shares listed.

Similarly it is not possible to complete entries in “Investments” as I cannot understand what some of the entries are asking for.
Security Detail Wizard
The trading market does not have a place or space for the London Stock Exchange.
What is the Identification Number referred to.
The price entry is greyed out.

In the Equities Section I have managed to create a price using manual price update in the Exchange rate price editor which is wrong and I can no longer change it. I find the layout of the editing box confusing rows two three and four are unclear.

Hopefully this will get rid of the nasty notice.

Can any body help please.

If you go to "Tools," then "Prices" you should be able to find it there and edit or delete it. Perhaps you already tried that?

(BTW: You may need to check "Show all stored prices")

I sort of remember a problem with transaction entry in investment accounts but the details have vanished without a trace. You can easily install an up-to-date AppImage version on your system (no need to uninstall the version provided by your distro) and try if it solves the problem. Please follow the instructions on our AppImage page. Feedback about success/failure is much appreciated.

Thanks to you both and I am pleased to hear that somebody else is suffering from a mature brain!
It looks as though the tool drop down is the answer I will give it a go.
I will keep you posted.

Using Tools Prices -----Enables completion of the quantity in Investment – Equities.

Moving now to Investment details, which may be found from Investment – Securities –, Calls for an Identification Number.
“Identification. An optional field to enter additional identification information you might like to keep track of. Again, this information is not used anywhere else.” The handbook says.
The trouble is this appears in the Update Stock and Currence Prices and is necessary to allow auto updating to proceed Which statement is a porky pie?
Wnat should be used for the ID when updating Stock?

The other oddity is that there is a facility to add shares to the portfolio in the ‘Share Account’ but there are no facilities for giving them a value which may be OK when you are increasing the number of shares but it is not OK when you just add shares.
How can you add shares with a value? I think that this is the one that you could not remember.

It appears that active maintenance is no longer carried out as there are gaps in the handbook and still some malfunctios. It is a shame because it is potentially very good.

Could it be that this can be used to update a price from a site which renumbers stock tickers to block people from automatically uploading prices?

And isn't "adding shares with a value" also called a Buy? Kidding aside, If you add shares on a given day, they acquire the value of the share price at that day.
