Hello All,
I am a Kmymoney user and enjoy the software. I use Windows10 (64 bits) I have difficulty each time I have to update to a latest version. I am confused about the various builds. 1) Leading from the "Download" menu I fall on page https://download.kde.org/stable/kmymoney/5.0.6/ Which is version 5.0.6 dating from 2019-09-29. This is called an "older stable release" . Is the 5.1.2 not stable? (Or perhaps the link needs to be updated?) 2) Leading from the "stable" and "master" branches: A)Master I installed build 1177 and on opening found I had installed 5.1.1.8. I was pleased to see all the icons were working on the welcome page. However I found the report section to be blank. No reports available. I decided to try B) B) Stable I installed build 1059 and on opening found I had installed 5.1.2 - Success! The Icons were only partially working But I had all the reports available. I have imported a file and looked at reports and all is working fine except for the icons (which is far from being a major problem for me). I am not a technical expert and am sure I am not alone trying to figure out where I should be updating from. I appreciate the work that must go on behind the scenes to keep an open source software compliant with Mac and Windows. I continue to enjoy Kmymoney but would appreciate a set of simple instructions on the page https://kmymoney.org/download.html under the section Windows. I think it should also make clear that the file to download is the kmymoney**********.exe file (which is called a succesful artifact). Thank you for a great product Chris |

We're well aware of the situation and actively working to improve the experience for Windows/macOS users.
We will upload the stable release there within days.
Can you confirm you had a book file opened while checking the reports page?
Icons are also a known issue and we'll try to improve the situation for the next release.
Absolutely, this is what we want to fix – users should not need anything else than just clicking "Download for macOS/Windows/Linux" button on the website. This will be done within days, as explained.
Thank you for the kind words, Chris.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
In reply to your question I confirm that I had a file open when I saw I had no reports. Also I noticed that the time taken to open the software was very variable between the different versions. With the current 5.1.2 it takes around 6 seconds to open. This is the same as previous versions. With the 5.1.1.8 the software practically opened immediately. I have three different files and appreciate greatly the fact that opening a file is almost immediate as is the general reactivity of the interface. It just "feels" good. Many thanks Chris |

I saw a similar issue yesterday with a testing book file without any accounts. But the reports showed up as soon as I added an account, so I assumed it was the empty book file at fault. Can you file a bug report, please, at bugs.kde.org for this behavior? Thanks in advance.
The time to open the book should be, in fact, the same, except in master I removed the splash screen and made the window appear immediately while the file is still being opened. The total time it takes to open the book file should be the same between the versions, but indeed, the observed effect would be that the interface is now "snappier" and this is what I was after. Happy our users notice it Please do bear in mind that master builds are not stable and may end up corrupting your book file. They should not be used on a daily basis and only to test things out.

Chris, this stable build, once done, will have majority of the icons fixed to match the unstable branch:

Thank you for your quick replies.
1) I have filled in the bug report as requested 2) Not being as reactive as you I have now loaded stable branch kmymoney-5.1-1065-windows-msvc2019_64-cl.exe. Two improvements: a) All icons are present b) The program opens in less than two seconds Additionally when I switch between different files using "File Close" then "File Recently opened" the files open quasi instantaneously. I confirm that the whole experience is much "snappier". Thank you for your reactivity. It is as refreshing as the program itself! |

Regarding b) you can test the startup time of the application without loading the file by starting it with the option -n. This simply prevents KMyMoney from opening the last opened file upon program start.

I have found trying to find the most current stable version to be difficult and in fact I seem to have problems with any new installation after 5.0.6 on Windows 10.
I have been using version 5.0.6 for over a year after converting from another program. Except for one or two small issues this version has been perfect for my needs. Every so often I will install a version from the stable branch and there is always something seriously wrong, so I always revert back to 5.0.6. For example, I just tried kmymoney-5.1-1080-windows-msvc2019_64-cl.exe. Initially it appeared to be fine. However, I went to the payee (and tag) view, and here is where there seemed to be an issue. Every transaction was entered twice as a debit and credit... one entry showing the category information, and one entry showing the account information. So once again I uninstalled the new version. My only issues with 5.0.6 are it opens in the lower corner of the desktop, so I always have to drag it to the center. And the Num field in the ledger seems to have a will of its own. No matter how you change the settings it enters a number (I use the field as a transaction type indicator). I have couple of other nice to haves, but on the whole this is an awesome application and I have no intention of switching from it and in fact I am not sure I want to switch from 5.0.6. Nice to haves: It would also be nice to be able to customize the ledger view to be able to add fields to the display (for example category and notes/memo). Plus I believe a couple of the tag reports do not filter correctly. But long story short, it would be nice if the website were clearer on what is the most current completely stable version. But thanks for a great application! Update: the developers quickly responded to my bug report regarding payees/tags. I am now using version 5.1.3 and it is working great for my use case. It fixed a number of issues including the load position on Windows 10. I encourage you to file a bug report if you have issues!

Please do file bug reports at https://bugs.kde.org as soon as you notice such issues – we can't help and make the app better if we don't know they exist.

What kind of troubles? As explained above, we can't improve things if we don't know what's broken. Please do report the bugs whenever you come across any.
