I've played around too much with the capital gain report that was previously set up in the Reports Section. It is now FUBAR.
Can anyone give me explicit directions on how to build a new one from scratch? Thanks

Any modifications you make are saved to a new "customized" report.
The original stock report is still available in the appropriate report type section.

Thanks, Mark. This is not the first time you have come to the rescue. :-)
So, you are saying that the "default" reports are hard-wired into the program. Any changes that are made, I understand, generate a new, customized, report. My problem is that the report is not picking up my gains. I have a simple buy of 100 sh of Delta Air. Then 6 months later, they are sold. There are no other Delta transactions. In the Cap Gains report, Delta does not show up. Actually, none of the stocks in my main account show up in the cap gains report, even if I set the Date range to ALL. In the latter case, three investment sales show up....should be hundreds. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks for any thoughts.

I have a working CG report. There were two things I had to do to make it work:

1) Customize the report by going to the Report tab and make sure the drop down box for "Sum investments" is set to "Only sold". I left the other boxes alone.

2) Do not select any accounts. There seems to be a bug (which I have reported) which causes nothing to appear in investment reports when you select specific accounts.

Thanks for the response, Mark. I was not successful in getting a CG report to work. Selecting no accounts resulted in no results -- so that is a good thing! :-)
I am would not be surprised if this is operator error on my part, but it is damn frustrating because a CG report is one of the main reasons to keep track of finances, for me. Thanks again, and happy holidays.

I found I can only get a report if all accounts are selected in filters. That is because of the reporting bug.

I had to create taxable and non-taxable categories to get the results I need.

I have been able to create reports to exactly verify the 1099s I get.

Ok, I figured it out. Here is the crux of my problem:
1) In order for a stock that is no longer in my account, i.e., sold, to *not* show up in the report "Investment Holdings", I have to Close that account (stock). That works; when I ask for the investments IN my account, that sold stock does not show up. BUT
2) When I want a report of the capital Gains for stocks I sold during the year, KMM will not look and see that those closed stocks should be in the report !!
So, basically it is a mistake to close any stocks. Because if you do, you cannot easily in the future ask KMM to tell you what your capital gains were during any past year.
Am I missing something here? I knew it would come down to user error.....but....

I forgot that those reports even existed!!! My brokerage firm lists, by lot, the purchase and selling price of a stock. So I became used to using their data rather than KMyMoney!!
