Redating to a day in the past

Sun Jan 02, 2022 12:28 am
I'm attempting to reconstruct a transaction that happened a month ago, but I can't get anything prior to today.

Is there a way to get around this.

Check that the opening date of the account is prior to any transaction's post date in that account.

I deleted the original, and tried to manually entered. it for a correction

So is it just plainly not possible to manually enter a translation from the past?

Which KMyMoney version are you using? Did you change the opening date of any related account/category? It must be possible to enter transactions in the past. I do this for the last twenty years or so. In case it does not work, there is a check that prevents it and we need to figure out what it is.

Can you be a little more specific what you mean by "I can't get". Does it mean that your ledger shows only today's entries? Does it mean that when you create a transaction, if you type in an older date, you cannot record that transaction? I think more specificity will help the gurus.

this
Yes. I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. But yes that is what I meant. I can't make a transaction that is on an older date.

I tried to changed to opening date to an earlier day, but it wouldn't work. I'm trying this something that was a month ago. I am working to set this up because I want to see where my money has been going.

So in addition to entering an older date, I also want to line up the old entries, which I downloaded, to their expenses.

Edit: I am currently using 5.1.2

No need to apologize, we are all learning here and glad you are reaching out for help.
And rest assured, KMyMoney is quite capable of giving you the reports and information you want.

IPWizard is one of the founding fathers here and I would bet money that he is right in saying the opening date of the account has to be moved back. Forgive me if you already know this but I will spell it out;
1) In the list of accounts choose the account in question.
2) Now, you can either click on "Edit Account" in the top menu list or you can "Click the secondary mouse button" on the account and choose "edit account".
3) On the General Tab, under Opening Information, you will find the account opening date. Change that to something early enough not to conflict with your transaction entries. Click OK
4) Now go back to the ledger and try to put in a month-old entry.

If this doesn't help, hit us up again with very specific comments. Happy New Year.

atheit, thanks that you have such faith in me and apologies to tedzilla: when I wrote

I meant exactly what atheist described in his steps 1)..4). It probably needed a bit more explanation.

Happy New Year.

You're welcome, IPWizard. It's the least I can do as you and several others have helped me as I struggled to make KMM my Quicken replacement. (I have reached that goal, btw)
I am happy that I am getting to a point where I *can* make a small contribution to newbies. I would like to encourage others to be more active on this forum. It is too much to ask of you, Ostroffjh, et al, for customer support. KMM is very powerful, but it has peculiarities (especially in Reports) that require hand-holding at the beginning. I am committed to helping where I can.
