Merge Accounts from different databases

Hello,

Does anyone know a way to merge accounts from one database to another one?

At the moment I have the 'regular' financial accounts in one database and some investment accounts in another one and each one has some transactions.
I would like to merge those two db's without keying in all accounts and the attached transactions again.
To merge the categories as well would be nice but is not mandatory
Is that possible?

Any help is much appreciated.
TIA

Linux Mint v20.1 and KMM 5.0.8 (AppImage 5.1.657dbcf2f)

You can export individual accounts from KMyMoney in CSV or QIF format ("File" menu). You can then define the accounts in the other database and import the transactions. I have not tried this. So, some caveats:

1. Whatever you do, first make a backup copy of both databases
2. Do not immediately assume success and delete the backups right after importing. Wait long enough until you're sure everything is OK.
3. I can see many ways how importing an investment account can go wrong; mostly how the individual stocks are defined after import. Therefore, I'd rather import cash accounts into the investment database than the other way around.

Yes, #3 is certainly a useful approach. Using QIF over CSV will also allow to simply import the categories with the file, so no need to create them first. QIF supports two modes AFAICR: 1) bank statement import and 2) database import from other applications. You want to use 2) since that is what you're doing.

If you experience some problems, let us know. After all it is software that can be changed :D

And don't forget about the backups :)
