i want to tidy up my categories.

Is there a tool similar to the one available to tidy/merge payees?

Delete the categories you don't like.
You go to the Categories tab on the left and select the category to delete. Right click on it and select Delete. You will then be presented with a drop down box to select a different category to merge the deleted category's data into. Do this for each category you want to clean up.

This is not a good solution. It's fine if you have a few categories, but I have many many dozens. It would be nice if I could choose a bunch of them, and right click on the whole lot -- as is possible for the "payees".
