how to start a portfolio

Tue Mar 01, 2022 5:46 pm
I would be interested on any advice how to start a portfolio which exists already several years but I want to start tracking it in KMM e.g. 01-Apr-2021.
At this time there is some money in the brokerage account and several holdings in the portfolio account.
I don't want to start with some 'buy' transactions since this would mess up the brokerage account.
it would be, kind of 'recording a balance' on a given day.
Any ideas?

TIA

Looking back at my investment accounts when I first started using KMM, in 2015, it looks like I handled this by setting the opening balance in the KMM brokerage account to the total value of the positions in the investment account + its cash balance on that date, and then entered the holdings as 'buy' transactions from that.

That's a smart way to do that.
