Hi there,
The one thing that always seems to hold me up with KMyMoney is the transaction import feature. For a certain credit card, I've attempted importing .qfx, .qif, and .csv. Each attempt results in every transaction having the same 'Details' and the same 'Category'. I've read through the Handbook and have searched for the issue and cannot figure out why this is happening. I've been able to import transactions in the past without this issue. Any ideas? I am using version 5.0.6 on Windows 11. Thank you for your time! |

5.0.6 is rather old and a lot of changes have been made to transaction import in the meantime. You may want to try to update to a newer version (5.1.3 is current). See https://kmymoney.org/download for more information. At this point in time it is hard to analyze your problem without knowing a few more details (it all depends on the data and your settings). Can you post a sample (anonymized) of an QIF or OFX transaction that has this problem? Does the problem persist after upgrading to a newer version?

ipwizard,
thanks for the reply. I will give upgrading a shot this weekend and report back! If that doesn't resolve it, I will post a sample file as requested. Have a good day! |

Hi again,
I've upgraded to Version 5.1.3-4e975a6ff. The issue appears to be unchanged. Sample ofx transactions: <STMTTRN> <TRNTYPE>DEBIT <DTPOSTED>20220724120000[0:GMT] <TRNAMT>-25.00 <FITID>20220724123456 <NAME>Store 123 </STMTTRN> <STMTTRN> <TRNTYPE>CREDIT <DTPOSTED>20220722120000[0:GMT] <TRNAMT>25.00 <FITID>Payment <NAME>AUTOMATIC PAYMENT </STMTTRN> I've tried different settings in the import tool and ever way has resulted in the transactions having the same "Details" "Pay to". The "Pay to" is a payee who I have used and it also is applying the default "Category" to each transaction. The "Memo" field recieves the <NAME> entry. The date and amounts are correct. I've tried the same data as CSV import as well with the exact same results - Might I have an issue with my software configuration? Any ideas? |

Check the field KMyMoney extracts the payee information from. Edit the account, select the Online settings tab. Within that, select the Import Details tab. Check the import options so that the Payee's name is based on contents of the OFX tag is set to NAME.
Does that make a difference?

Apologies, but I can't follow your first instruction.
Check the field/edit the account/select online settings tab... I'm not following you and cannot figure out where to start. Do you mind rewording or pointing to something specific I can find? Edit what account? Thanks again for your help! |

Sorry if that was confusing. Reading your post again, I think you use File/Import OFX function. Please confirm. My instructions were for the online transaction download when you map an online account to a KMyMoney account (using Account/Map account). If you have not mapped the account, my instructions don't make sense because you will not see the UI I refer to.
If you open the File/Import OFX dialog, you see an option named Payee's name is based on contents of the OFX tag. Use the combo box on the right of it and change its content to Name before importing the file. See https://pasteboard.co/ToKrbN2BOKSr.png. Does that make more sense?

Ok, this makes more sense. I am using the File/Import OFX dialog and not the account map (though, I wish I could get that to work!)
I have changed that combo box to "Name", yes. It makes no difference in my results. |

In that case, I have to take a deeper look. Maybe, something broke (or is broken). Give me some time because I have a busy week ahead.

So I spent some time to setup a test environment. I embedded your transaction fragments into a real OFX container so that I can do the import (via File/Import).
I see the two transactions get imported with out a problem. Since the <NAME> tag is the only one, it gets filled into the payee and memo field. (see https://pasteboard.co/auPn8g51uIQi.png). In case a different payee is shown for you, check the match parameters for this payee. Adjust that, so that it doesn't match anymore. Does that help? I am missing something?

Thanks for digging into it. Over the weekend, I installed KMM onto a different computer and loaded my file into it. Then I imported the transactions without issue.
I'm not sure what the problem was, but it is resolved when I used a new installation on a different PC. Thanks for your time! |
