Hi, all:
I've been hunting for word of an archiving function for KMyMoney for a few days, and haven't found anything but an unofficial announcement of the intention of doing it. It's not in the future feature list, and I haven't seen anyone else ask about it. So my question is...where is it? I love this program, but I can't see keeping two or three years' worth of data in the current file. Does anyone know more about including archiving in KMyMoney? Thanks in advance. --Chris

Actually, the more data you have, the more interesting stuff you can get out of the reports. We have people using it who have over 10 years worth of data.
There was some talk about an archiving function, but there was little interest about it, and so far the performance has not suffered due to having many years in the same file. Perhaps in 10 more years we have to review the decision. ![]()

Is this a performance issue or more of a display issue? In case of the former, we would love to have some details about your hw/os setup and the number of data items your store in KMyMoney's file. You can get those numbers using the 'File/File information' function. In case of the latter, KMyMoney supports a filter to hide all transactions prior to a specific date from the ledger display. Please see the settings dialog for that.

[/quote] Definitely not a performance issue. I have only about a year's worth of data in each of two files, and the load really quickly. I just thought it might be nice to be able to move older data out of the main file. But now that I've seen the replies, I don't think it's so attractive an idea any more. It could indeed be interesting to have several years of data in the same file for comparison purposes. Thanks for the replies!
