Web Connect Woes - Kubuntu Jaunty

Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:35 am
Hi all-

I'm new to KMM, so far I like it a lot. Originally, I installed from ubuntu's repositories and it would work fine, but I could not import OFX files nor could I get a list of banks when trying to do web connect.

If it matters, this is the configure command I ran to compile the version I'm running:
Code: Select all
kde_htmldir=/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/ ./configure --enable-ofxplugin --enable-ofximport --without-arts

So, after reading a bit here, I downloaded the package from sourceforge, removed the old package, extracted the sourceforge package, make, make install... now OFX import works and I get a list of banks when trying to map to an online account.

Here is the problem, though. I get the following error message when trying to import. I get the same message if I pick MS Money or Quicken as the OFX identity:

Image

According to this, STMTTRNRS translates to "Your request to get statements for failed. Please try your call again. If you see this message again, call the Customer Support number for your financial institution, listed in the Contact Information place in the Online area."

So, what I did next is I loaded up the 'ol VirtualBox XP image and tried from a *cough* install of MS Money to test, and it worked fine.... as does downloading the OFX file and importing it to KMM manually.

Looking at the contents of the tmp file that is shown in the above screen shot, there isn't much data and the above error message is in there.

I read about the CVS versions, so I added Clay's ubuntu repo and replaced the version I compiled with his version to no avail-- same error.

If this is unique to me, if someone can tell me how to continue by posting logs or error reports, etc.... that would be very helpful. I would very very much like to get this going!

Thanks much!

To be able to actually look at the communication going on between the application and the bank, create an empty file called ofxlog.txt in your home directory. The following command would just do that:

Code: Select all
touch ~/ofxlog.txt

Then run the download and quit the application. Take a look at the contents of the ofxlog.txt file and check if you can find something in there.

WARNING: DO NOT POST THE FILE UNALTERED ANYWHERE AS IT CONTAINS SENSITIVE INFORMATION.

ipwizard - Thanks for the help. I did create a logfile and I removed my sensitive info:

I noticed that its complaining about invalid characters, and I think the bank is expecting values for the field "SMTTRNRS". From what I can tell, KMM is sending values for "STMTTRNRQ", but nothing like "SMTTRNRS" is shown in the first half of the log.

Then again I could be completely off track, I'm really just guessing. I wonder what the actual XML protocol/syntax requirements are. I'm all for trying things, I'm wondering if something silly like changing the Q to an S in the XML packet is all it needs. Is that something I can find in the code do try?

I tried again with Microsoft Money, and of course it works. I was poking around in the settings trying to find a clue on what its doing but I don't think I'll get anywhere there.

On a good note, KMM will grab info for me for some of my other online accounts, like credit cards, with no problems.

Which version of MS-Money is working for you? Does your version of KMyMoney allow you to play with the Application version announced to the OFX server?

I have it set to MS Money Plus right now, and I have the options to use Money 2003-2007. I also have the Quicken 2003-2008 options available, I've tried them all.

As it turns out, I will likely be switching banks soon so this may be a moot point. For the sake of any debugging developers who may care about the issue, I'm happy to try anything I can that anyone can think of to figure out what the problem is.
