Older was better

Mon Aug 31, 2009 10:48 pm
I have used Kmymoney for about 3 years, currently using version 0.9.3 and have always been satisfied with it, but as of the last two or three updates there is a problem when I try to balance accounts. I enter the begin and end dates example:
begin July 24
end August 25

However a bill of $55 paid on August 27 is included in the balances but will not clear even if I check the reconcile box. The only way to make it clear is to change the date of the transaction from August 27 to August 25, (or to a date that falls within the begin and end dates).

If I do not do this it will show $55 outstanding and will not clear. It seems about every two or three months I run into this problem. I think it would be better if you change it back the way it was before so the date does not matter as long as the reconcile box is checked.

Best Regards,
Mike Brenton

Have you tried changing the statement date?

Yes, I've tried changing the statement date but that sometimes causes problems trying to reconcile the account the following month. It seems to want to let you only reconcile things that fall between the begin and end dates you enter, even though it includes some transactions not between those dates in the total. You can check the reconcile box for a transaction outside those dates, but it does not reconcile it.

The old behavior was; if you click a reconcile box it reconciled no matter the date.

During reconciliation, you can still the state to cleared. Upon finishing the reconciliation, it will change the state to Reconciled.

What I don't understand is, if that transaction shows up on your statement for a certain date, why don't you change the date of the KMM transaction to the date of the statement? Otherwise, you can change the status during the normal mode.

No, it won't.

"What I don't understand is, if that transaction shows up on your statement for a certain date, why don't you change the date of the KMM transaction to the date of the statement?"

That's what I have to do the last few months, but that didn't used to be the case. It used to clear transactions if I check them no matter what the transaction date was.

Here is what happened this month. I finished clearing everything but it still showed a balance of $55 instead of 0.00. If I try to finish it informs me the balance doesn't match. I saw the only transaction for $55 was on Aug 27, two days after the Aug 25 statement end date. But if I check that it didn't change the balance to 0.00, it stayed at $55 and trying to finish it again informed me the balance didn't match.

Only by changing the $55 transaction date to Aug 25 then clearing it did the balance show 0.00 and I could reconcile for the month. I don't understand why some transactions that don't fall between the statement dates, Kmymoney includes them in the total to be cleared, then won't let me clear them unless I change the transaction date.

I just tried it here, and it clears transaction on dates after the statement, just by clicking on the reconciliation column.
It won't include those transactions on the cleared balance, because the dates don't match.
It's part of the reconciliation process too.

Otherwise, you can always do it manually, just by clicking on the reconciliation column. There is no obligation to use the Reconciliation wizard for that.

Yes you can put a check in the box but if the transaction is outside the date range it will not subtract the amount from the total to be reconciled, and if you try to finish it will warn you the amounts don't match.

The problem is that a transaction that is not within the date range of the statement is sometimes included in the total amount that needs to be reconciled to balance that statement.

I will see what happens next month.

If it is included in that statement, then the date of the transaction should be changed.
