I like it when the K is incorporated into the name in a nice way, like Krita.
Capital K + some word is just boring.

I personally also like when names of Free programs are in Esperanto. Too bad that "Money" translates to "Mono" as the name is already taken by some evil project. :p

Killmotor. Another Duckburg reference, it sounds cool, has to do with money and has the 'K'. ;)

OK, on a more serious note: I don't have any good suggestions (Killmotor sounds like a game), but I quite like Inkaso. It sounds like "Inkasso" in Swedish, which means debt collection. However, I don't know if it makes any sense to English speakers.

I would prefer a name that isn't too complicated. It should be easy to remember. I was going to write that the name also should make sense (and be related to the application) in English, but after thinking about some applications I use (Dolphin, Firefox, Plasma, Konqueror, Amarok) I guess it doesn't matter too much.

How about 'Ekonomy', keeping 'my' from MyMoney. :p (not sure if it suits the application, though).

EDIT:
@KAMiKAZOW: +1. Krita is an awesome name. Rita = draw and Krita = crayon in Swedish. Although the developers aren't from Sweden, as far as I know.

EDIT2:
I also like Capital/Kapital. Sounds robust and seems to fit the application well.

Like Kapital myself. Though not big on the K names. Why not just Capital? More people might be likely to use it then.

I think changing the name is good, especially with a new opportunity to do so.

Two I just saw that were interesting were KashFlow and Shekel.

Along the money themed names, I figured I would toss in a couple that I thought of-
Kurrency (or Currency, depending on how the devs feel about the whole K 'Kontroversy')
Kurrent
Kredit (or, for those of us in the US right now, KreditKrunch)
and, because I just thought of it and wanted to toss in a really bad name, Bankmaster 2000

Hello everyone! I think changing the name is a great idea. I have never really been fond of the "my" part of the name because it reminds me of the lame paradigm that Microsoft adopted starting with Win95. ...I am now closing the can of MSFT bashing.

First, I think it would be good to avoid an overly esoteric name unless the name is going to be prominently explained on the home page and help. One thing I really dislike in software names is uselessly esoteric names. They are cute at first, but right now I can't tell you what "Krita" does because the name makes no connection to the functionality for me. I spent 5 years in a company that came up with idiotic names for their product suites just because they sounded cool... We literally had people calling the help desk to translate from the moronic, new, meaningless name back to what the old product name was (which actually described the functionality!).

Second, my thoughts on names (ordered by preference)...
* KashFlow -- I just saw this as I posted... I like it!
* Kash -- short, sweet, and to the point.
* Kurrency -- another nice name.
* KMoney (or Kmoney) -- gets rid of the dreaded "My", but I understand that it is too close to the current name
* Kapital -- that's pretty neat!
* Kitty -- esoteric, but not too much if you are familiar enough with (US?) English colloquialisms
* BanKer -- kinda cute, not a favorite, but at least the name is clearly financial
* Ekonomy -- again, cute, etc. (alt. EKonomy or eKonomy)

Third, other suggestion:
* Akkountant -- I think someone else may have suggested this, but I'll confess to laziness and not hunting for it
* Akkount or Akkounting as a variant on Akkountant
* KLedger -- a financial ledger
* Koin -- if we want to avoid "Kash" due to any potential esoteric shell name conflicts
* KPurse -- since KWallet is already taken... I think I'm just getting silly now
* K$ -- confuse **** out of everyone! Now I'm really being silly.

Cheers!

Two suggestions from my wife-
Bank (which is may have already been suggested and will almost certainly be used by someone else already)
Income

With the foreign money,
Soldi or Denaro

or for a more action packed name,
DimeFighter :o

Really I don't understand you guys ...

for me it is important to answer this question : What does a name bring ?
=> acknowledgement
=> reputation
=> a concept
=> simple communication

Does Kmymoney fullfil these requirements ? for me yes.

Would it hurt if we change the name ? Yes ! definietly yes. All the work for google machine will be lost for example ... you'll have to make a lot of effort to correct everything (code, documentation ...).

I don't say the proposed names are no good. In contrary, some of them are really good. But what for really ?

Play on words with K is funny but of no use. If I want to search about a program for accounting I will be using words as money or cash and not Kash... It seems important to have a good name in the package name, especially for linux distribution software installer.

So please, don't make it too complicated.

Kmymoney is simple, sober, and works for what it does.

Kaurum? (aurum = latin for gold)

Khrysos (chrysos = also latin for gold)

K in these names sounds ok to me. And I also like more abstract names; if program is any good, it deserves a unique name. Just me speaking, of cource.

@Neije Google (and people) will learn new name soon enough. Changing one word in documentation and code is no big deal (I suppose).

The documentation is not so much of a problem as the code. That will take a lot more effort.

I think it's time to drop the ks from mostly KDE apps, just like Gnome that don't have a g in all it's apps. This makes feel more universal the app, and less KDE specific. I think that a good name without a first k would be the best choice. Please :(( . ;D

K or no K, the name itself will be good or bad.

Focus on the names, not whether it has a K on it or not.

I think we will find a good name ;)

And excuse me, but i think the k is a handicap for kmymoney itself, cause the only reason for some people from other desktops to not install the app is because there is a k in the name that is saying them "ey don't install me I have a k and I'm for KDE". I don't want to be persistent on this topic but i think it's important, sorry me.

Next time i will post a name for the app. I am thinking on a very good name. ;D

What about Karma?

Karma is about cause and effect. Lifes debits and credits... I think its quite fitting. It happens to have a K, its short and sweet. There seems to be only one clash with the name:
