Although I've voted to keep the current name I want to add Kreutzer or Kreuzer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreuzer) to the list of "historical currency names that could be used as a replacement name" that were mentioned so far.

One of the biggest advantages of renaming it, would be to dropping the K prefix. This is a serious program that does a serious task and thus needs a name you can take seriously (not a misspelling or having a bizarre K in-front ).

My favourite suggestion that I've read here is 'Smaug' (The dragon from 'The Hobbit' who guarded all his treasure so closely, that he even noticed when a single cup was missing)

The Tolkien names are registered and we cannot use them. The Bilbo blogger has just gone through a renaming because of that. No way we are making the same mistake.

BTW, what is serious about Smaug? I just imagine myself in a suit talking about "Smaug" features to a bunch of managers, and I can't stop laughing. :D

I really think it would be foolish to change 'KMyMoney' significantly - perhaps add a 4 as suggested earlier when it goes to QT4 - because:
it's established
it says clearly what it does
it's sober - we've all had enough of 'unsober' bankers to last us a lifetime

All the suggestions either obscure what KMyMoney does or focus on one aspect of an application which is now quite multifaceted.

Without naming names, I cannot think of another financial application whose name so comprehensively sums up what it does.

well, actually, "MyMoney" isn't a verb, so it's hardly saying what it actually *does*. further more "KMyMoney" is hard to pronounce, imho. And the "K" doesn't fit in this name, at all.

I would personally suggest a name such as Kashflow or BanKer for the program.

I was just thinking... A big problem with names like "BanKer", "Kitty" or anything else that is a real, commonly-used word, is that it is going to be practically impossible to search for it on Google, especially if it does something that's related to the name.

So "BanK" or "BanKer" are probably the worst names possible for the application.

I like Treasure or Aurum, since at least I connect something positive with it.

That's actually quite a good point!

Although searching for e.g. "KDE Banker" would kind of narrow it down, it would be desirable to choose a more uncommon name. Therefore perhaps an ancient word for some kind of money or a currency would be perhaps better suited.

I prefer names that say what a program actually does. This might sound boring but it makes sense from a users point of view. So my favorites (in descending order)
* KMyMoney
* KMoneyManager
* KFinance
* KMoney
* ...

I would not mind dropping the K, but actually think it's a nice way of marking KDE applications as such.

Maybe on Wikipedia's List of historical currencies we can find a name that has a nice ring to it. E.g. if we can find the name of the most ancient currency (or first coins), that would rock :]

I like the Ancient Roman currency names. Perhaps "Denarius" or "Sestertius"?
