FWIW, I like the first two listed: Karma or Pekunia. IMO the "K" does not have to be there, and the name needs to be cool (like the dev said), and does not have to indicate what the program does. For example, the highest-rated online personal finance manager is Mint (www.Mint.com), which only maybe loosely has anything to do with money. However, their logo is just a Mint leaf...
There's certainly nothing wrong with dropping either the "K" or the "Money" from the name. In fact, it can be argued that using a name that overtly implies what the program does could potentially stop users from even looking into it and checking it out. Best of luck going forward. |

I even subscribed here to tell it.
The only change I could agree is KMoney... As it is shorter and still recognizable. But, by me, never change a winning name Voilà voilà Sheers |

I think a new name has to be really good to replace KMyMoney which is
a: well established b. clear as to its purpose Of those listed I like Cashbook best but I think there is already a software application with this name. Similarly, the name Moneybox is already an existing software application otherwise I would have entered that earlier. One name not listed is Bankdesk. It invokes a place where you would look after your banking and financial affirs. For those who care about a kde link, it not only has two natural k's but the eagle-eyed will notice it actually has 'kde' at its heart. |

As you may have read on the planet, the decision has been to keep the name. http://soliverez.com.ar/drupal/node/132
Even when there were several good submissions, none was able to catch the heart of the core team over the original name. After some discussion, we decided to stick to the original plan and drop the '2' of the name (a reminder of the port to kde2 years ago) and bump the version number to 4.0 for the first stable release of KMyMoney for KDE4, which we hope will be in some months (probably about the Northern Hemisphere summer, like the 1.0 release). We sincerely hope that the decision will not alienate anyone. We truly appreciate the feedback we got from the community, be it in opinions or proposals for new names. To this day, the number of posts of this thread is unprecedented, and corresponding threads on the mailing lists had a fair share of mails too. We did read every one of them, classified them, digged for more info when needed, and finally submitted the options for discussion to the core team. If anything, sticking to the current name only speaks of the mindshare it currently has, and this amount of participation speaks loudly of the maturity of the community behind this application. I sincerely hope nobody will feel offended because we didn't change.

I like Shekel. Also, how about 'wampum It's an old form of currency (beads used by native American peoples). Not as old as the Shekel, but kind of a cool-sounding name.
But if the current name has cachet, I think that the 'My' and the '2' need to go. 'KMoney' works much better for my...um...money.

As I said in the previous post, this discussion is over.
The definitive name is KMyMoney. That's what it's going to be in the foreseeable future. Thank you all for your inputs!

I'm surprised no one had suggested "KBoaty McBoatface"
For a serious suggestion, I wish they had gone with KWealth ? |
