I want to install KMyMoney on OS X 10.6. I have found some instructions at http://old.nabble.com/How-can-I-install ... 09677.html which involves installing MacPorts and then KMyMoney. I can get Macports installed OK as far as I can tell, but the
1st terminal command in the KMyMoney installation ( cd /opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/kmymoney)
fails because portslocation doesn't exist. Would it have worked if I had installed Darwinports instead of MacPorts? If anyone has any idea on what to do now, I would much appreciate it.

I think you have to replace portslocation with the actual directory created by Macports. Can you check if it created a directory in /opt/local/bin?

There are no directories in /opt/local/bin, only UNIX executable files (daemondo, port, portf, portindex, portmirror)

Then it looks like you are missing some step of the Macports or Darwinports install, because you should have a portslocation folder. Are you sure you went through all the previous steps correctly?

The install appeared to complete ok. I have downloaded macports again and again carried out the installation. Same result, there is no folder in/opt/local/bin.

I know absolutely nothing about this, but the Darwinports instructions contain the following "cd /opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/"

If those folders don't exist, then your problem is with Darwinports.

If you realise that, then just ignore me.

I have successfully installed KMyMoney 1.0.3 on MacOSX Snow Leopard. Here is the steps I used :

Download the .dmg for Snow Leopard here : http://www.macports.org/install.php and install it like any other MacOSX application.

Normally the selfupdate of Macports is already launched by the installer but your can make sure everything worked by typing in a terminal :
Code: Select all
sudo port -v selfupdate

Then just install KMyMoney with this command line :
Code: Select all
sudo port -v install kmymoney

The installation takes time because the system has to compile Qt and kdebase3 but it worked well for me.

After that you can launch kmymoney just by typing :
Code: Select all
kmymoney

You can then update your ports (I plan to do it every weeks) by typing :
Code: Select all
sudo port -v selfupdate
sudo port -v upgrade outdated

I now have to find a solution to use the Macport X11 installation by default instead of the Apple (outdated) one, but that's an other subject...
I also need to find how I can have an Icon of Kmymoney on my dock to launch it more easily. GIMP "macported" add his own icon on the Applications/Macport folder, why not KMyMoney ?

Does anyone know when the KDE4 version of KMyMoney will be available for OSX through Macports ?

Note : I added "-v" option to all of the commands above to see all compilation messages. You can remove this option to have a "silent" installation.

So when you say this took some time, how long are we talking?
I tried to do this and after three hours I got tired and went to bed, I left the computer running and when I got up in the morning it was still not complete but it had locked up.

Thanks

If you added the -v option to the port command like I did you should have the detail of the compiling procedure on the terminal output with the error responsible for the lock-up.

Can you paste this output here ?

PS : when I said it takes time, I think it take nearly 30 min on my Mac, but that's just a rough approximation as I didn't checked for it.

I'm a recent convert from Dual Boot Windows and Linux machine to an iMac running 10.6.4 along with Boot Camp which I still use to run my old Windows only programs..

KmyMoney was always a favorite of mine under Linux and KDE..

I've today carried out the installation of KmyMoney on my iMac following this thread very successfully (thanks to previous contributors and by the way it took 1hr and 10mins to complete) but I now have the same problem as I once had under Linux with KDE KmyMoney.. the Date Format is picked up from the KDE settings but not from the base machine settings (as is usual).. the result is I now have an American Date format in KmyMoney of YYYY/MM/DD whereas I want a UK format of DD/MM/YYYY..
Does anyone know how I can format KmyMoney with a UK Date Format when using it on a Mac and MacPorts.
I'm not great with the Terminal, so please keep any suggestions in simple terms !!
Thanks,
Ron..

This is a reply to Oripi's question on 24 Feb 2010...
QUOTE: I also need to find how I can have an Icon of Kmymoney on my dock to launch it more easily. GIMP "macported" add his own icon on the Applications/Macport folder, why not KMyMoney ?: UNQUOTE..

I found an Icon in opt/local/var/macports/software/kmymoney/1.0.5.0/applications/macports/
I just copied it to the Desktop then dragged it to the Dock and it works just fine....

Hi twodogron,

KMyMoney is actually available via /Applications/MacPorts/KMyMoney since quite a while.
Version 1.0.5 gets installed at this location by MacPorts by default.
So, pulling the icon from there into the doc should work fine.

If you can't find the port at said location please file a ticket at MacPorts issue tracker http://trac.macports.org/newticket.
(If you do so, please take care to include 'kmymoney' in the port edit field as well as the maintainer mk in the CC edit field. Thanks.)

Greets,
Marko

P.S.: What concerns your other request concerning the date format I unfortunately don't know enough about KDE's internals to make that work. But I can imagine that it might help to set the LANG environment variable from inside the applescript which actually fires up the kmymoney executable. I'll check this out during the next few days and let you know. To remind me of this request you might also want to file a ticket at MacPorts. :-)

Thanks to all.....
I've now, with the help of this Forum, managed to create the correct Date Format in KmyMoney by running "Kcontrol"..

Many thanks for all your comments..
