You can read the original announcement here: http://soliverez.com.ar/drupal/node/157

The KMyMoney Team is proud to announce the immediate availability of version 3.96 of KMyMoney. This is the second beta release for the KDE4 platform, after only 1 and a half month of hard work, stabilizing and fixing bugs found during the first beta release.

This version is still considered beta and not recommended for general use. As with the previous version, the intention is to get feedback from the community and find those issues that are not immediately apparent.

Some of the improvements included in this release are:
- Compatibility with KDE SC 4.4, after an unfortunate bug in our previous release that made it impossible to compile in that setup
- Better integration with the Qt4 version of AqBanking, and an arrangement with AqBanking to have the Qt4 version more easily available
- Integration with KDE Calendar libraries, for a better local holiday support
- Improved handling of GPG-related errors
- The main view now has three different navigation modes: the traditional left navigation bar, a tree, and tabbed windows
- Charts have been improved and several features which were missing in the previous release have been added back, and some that were not present in the KDE3 version
- Over 30 bugs have been fixed for this release alone and only 8 bugs remain open at this point. We thank the community for the reports and we expect to see more reports (and hopefully more fixes) after this release
- Several custom widgets have been ported to be fully Qt4-native. This means not only an aesthetic improvement, but also a cleaner and more maintainable code, which has already helped us solve some bugs along the way. Plans are already being laid out to extend this effort to all the remaining widgets in subsequent releases
- Better build management, thanks to the feedback provided by the packagers of many distributions and platforms
- Documentation is now available in more languages (Italian, UK English, and Brazilian Portuguese, among others) and a Valencian Catalan translation is available for the user interface

For this and coming releases, at least until hitting a stable version, we have adopted a quick release cycle, comprised of 4 weeks devoted to the big changes and fixes, and 2 weeks to stabilizing and translating. We believe this will help us find bugs more quickly and improve the feedback, while still having enough time to work on bugs and new features. This means you can expect a new release 6 weeks from now, unless a blocking issue gets in the way.

For those still using the KDE3 platform version, the team has also released version 1.0.3. This maintenance release contains some fixes and improvements we found during the development of the KDE4 version and backported to it.

FYI, I tried installing the 3.95.0 via synaptic and I keep getting a dependency error. Says I need libkleo4 4:4.3.4-0

With all the backports activated I'm already at 4:4.4.0-0 Thoughts?

You need 3.96 which does not depend on libkleo anymore.

Thanks. I have the file, I was hoping to be able to install via synaptic instead of going through all the make steps. Linux should be easier than Windows, not harder ;>

Your distro should have a package available in the development or testing repositories. It will not be easily available because it is a BETA release.

<rant>
From my point of view, if you can't compile (which in sheer amount of steps is shorter than installing any soft in that big fat pile of junk some people call an OS), then you are better off not using BETA software, because bad things can happen. That's why this is called beta, and not release candidate.
</rant>

Since you are in Ubuntu, you have a PPA available. Check the topic about CVS packages in this same forum. That PPA holds versions of 3.9x. There you have it, as easy as installing from Synaptic.

The Budget page is blank in 3.96 but present in 1.03; is this intentional?

What do you mean by blank Budget page? I see the budgets just fine here in 3.96.x

In my version of 3.96 from the packman repository, the Budgets page is blank. I transferred a file from 1.0.3. with the budgets already in and the Budgets page now has the three icons which are on the left in 1.0.3 but no editing pane to right and clicking on the icons has no effect. The budget is however listed immediately below them.

Check your KMM config file and look for a key named "KBudgetViewSplitterSize". If it is 0/0 or something like that, change it to 1/1.

It was actually 641,0; so I changed it to 1,1 and all appears to be well though I haven't tried in out in earnest yet.

yep, that was the problem. that number is a ratio for the splitter. The new version has a fix to check for that.

Hi, I have the same problem (version 3.98.0) I cannot find this config file, either in the dropdown menus or with a file search through my root... directories.
When I create a new budget, all I get is the name of the file. No categories, or amounts etc.

Thanks!

The config file is ~/.kde4/share/config/kmymoneyrc where ~ (the tilde) represents the user's home directory.
