This is my first post on this board so hi everyone!
I have several bank accounts and none of them provide an export to OFX nor do they export to the same format. I feel the only way I can import data into KMM is to write an app taht will format the bank exports into a standard OFX format that I will then be able to import into KMM. I was wondering if there was a place where I could find the specs for the OFX file KMM uses so that I can write the app and import the data properly. Here is what I am using, although on KDE 4.3.2:
Can someone point me in the right direction? Any advice is more than welcome Many thanks, -Ed |

In case of OFX that might be http://www.ofx.net/. This might be a tough job to do. Do you know, that KMyMoney also supports importing via QIF? It might be enough for you. I have no idea what the data looks like that you try to import. In case it is CSV formatted, you can try to use the AqBanking package and its CSV import.

Thanks for the tip ipwizard!
So as long as I get my bank statements moved to csv, I can use the plugin to insert the data into KMM2... Hmmm... I'll give it a go and let you know if I get it working. Thanks for the alternative solution! -Ed |

There's another alternative. I'm in the final stages of producing a csv import plugin, which works directly with KMM, without the extra complexity of AqBanking. If the 'powers that be' are in agreement, I could do with a non-English-environment tester. aga

Hi aga,
Sorry for the late reply. I'd be happy to help. I'm still trying to figure out what format is expected for the file to be uploaded but to be honest, I've had little time to move forward on this. Thanks for the offer. Keep me posted. Ed |

Hi Ed Just earlier today, I posted on the KMyMoney-devel mailing list ( KMyMoney-devel@kde.org ) patches to incorporate the csv plugin. The changes need to be reviewed etc before they are supported. In the meantime, with suitable backup precautions, etc., and at your own risk, you're welcome to try it. First things first, it's for KDE4/QT4 only, but if you're on rel 3.9x, and OK with patching/building, then it may be worth trying it. So far as expected format is concerned, that's really for you to decide. You tell the plugin what data is in which column, and which lines to import. Obviously a date is required, some transaction detail/payee etc., and a value (which can be a single amount field, or separate debit and credit fields. A transaction number can be imported, and any number of other fields can be imported as a memo. When I say any number of fields can be imported, in fact I set an arbitrary maximum column count of 12, on the basis that it was greater than any specimen I had encountered, and often only four are present. It can cope with comma, colon, semi-colon and tab as field separator. If you're not on 3/9x, there are some python scripts that I wrote earlier, and they are available in the contrib folder on CSV. csvbankingqif.py may help you. It doesn't have the flexibility of the plugin version, and it produces a qif format file, which can then be imported into standard KMM. Let's know how things go. aga |

Hi Aga,
I am having a problem importing my CSV dividend file. (KMM Version 5.1.2-416a91c2a). I have successfully imported stock transactions into this account, but the dividends are giving me headaches. Everything looks fine, selecting columns, etc, but when I get to the actual file import step KMM complains of an unknown transaction type. I have seen this happen before and it is simply a matter of selecting the correct type from the pull down menu. But this time, when I choose "dividend", the OK radio button remains greyed out. If I choose another type, like "reinvest divs" it will do that, but of course, that is not the correct type. I wonder about creating an OFX file from my CSV file. I would appreciate your help. thanks A

What export formats do Ed’s banks provide? Perhaps QFX? ipwizard’s suggestion of QIF or CSV would also work with KMyMoney.
