For the new version of KMyMoney, we would like to have a new icon.
This is a proposal, but suggestions and contributions are welcome.

That looks pretty/very good to me. Just a small query though. There's no indication of its financial purpose. The previous icon, while now looking a bit dated, did look like a coin. That apart, it's a definite improvement.

Well, the new one resembles a bit the 1 and 2 € coins. I know, you guys in the UK don't have that (yet).

I can declare utter failure, then!
I tried to make it look like a coin. Our own 1 Peso coins, and I remember the French francs were like these, a golden border with silver-colored center, but it seems I have failed to reproduce that. Perhaps if I make the border a little wider, and even insert some text there, it will look better. Also, making the K in a golden color might look better.

What if for the larger versions of the file, I insert the text "Personal finance manager for free users" on the outer edge? Making the K a little smaller could give enough room for that.

Utter failure, absolutely NOT! You'd have my vote for the open post of graphics designer, if you weren't otherwise occupied on something or other!! aga

I think a wider border would be good (for both the standard and larger versions) and the added text for the larger version would be great "Personal finances application for KDE" (as from about box) or "Personal finance manager for KDE" (as from splash screen) Ian |

This is great, I really think that a new icon for KMyMoney will be welcome.
Maybe you can ask the Oxygen team to make one that looks like the one you did ? It is a very good start but it don't look like other KDE icons. Maybe the "K" could be crossed by 2 bars like most of the currencies symbols in the world ($, €, ¥, etc... see : http://www.xe.com/symbols.php)

Here is a new possibility, with a thicker edge.

And another one with text on it

I like the idea very much. How practical is it not to have it face on but at an angle with the text around the edge of the 'coin' - or is that too much? In that case, you might not put all the letters, just enough to identify it.

Look cool, but I agree with Oripi that it doesn't look like an Oxygen icon, but maybe that's OK? A bit too much gradients for the outer border, and the shadow is a bit too strong for my tastes.
Also, making "Personal finance manager for KDE" stick out (like the K) would make the text look nicer, I think. When I hear "Personal finance manager", I think of a cashbox and some charts - but maybe that's just me (I've never used a financial application before). At least this icon goes well with the application name, and probably will scale well.

If it's a coin, the K shouldn't not be in gold color, because it's not possible to have a different color for a letter like that.
I also think that the text will be better if it is engraved in the coin. Beside that, it's a really good idea for the icon ! KMyMoney rocks !

I thought about engraving as well, but after looking at my coins, none had engraved text. I guess this is due to how coins are produced.

Here are two new possibilities, playing a bit with the colors of the K and the text.
