I have recently started using KMyMoney on both my desktop and my netbook. I am storing the data "in the cloud" for easy synchronization and am looking at encrypting the data file so all of my information is not open to everyone in case of losing the netbook or someone having access to my cloud account ".
I do have a personal key which I've activated in KMyMoney and understand that my data will not be encrypted until I do a new "Save As . . ." and start dealing with that new file. In the older version 1.xx of KMyMoney there was an option to use a key from KMyMoney in conjunction with my own personal key just in case I lost the password to my own. Sending the KMyMoney team my encrypted data file would allow you to de-crypt the file for me. Is that option still available and/or recommended? Thank you.

That option is still available and working as usual.
You can also encrypt with multiple keys, in case you want a second person to be able to access the file too.

Thank you for the information on using more than one key. I wasn't aware that you could have someone else (besides yourselves) access an encrypted file.
Where do I look for a trusted source to obtain the kmymoney key? The one I do have is expired. Edit: I was just on http://pgp.mit.edu doing a search for kmymoney. Gulp! Multiple hits. What do I download?? And am I looking for a keyID or user name or what? |
