Importing Dividends in QIF

Sun May 30, 2010 4:08 pm
Has anybody succeeded importing dividends properly with a brokerage account? To make sure I had the right format, I first exported an existing dividend, but it did not work. Here is the format I used:

!Type:Bank
D5/17'00
C*
MSome comment
T0.00
L[My_Account (Brokerage)]
S[My_Account (Brokerage)]
ESome comment
$-100.00
SInvestment income:Dividends
$100.00

I already gave up on trying to import dividends for different stock accounts in one file and am down to one import per stock account.

One problem seems to be in the Activity field: at best, it creates a new rank-1 category "Dividend" which I am unable to merge with my rank-2 Dividends category (see split line). Somehow, KMM seems to know they are the same thing: if I delete the former, the latter is not an option to move them into. The type of account also matters here. Having a total amount of 0.00 does not seem to be a good idea either.

I have given up using the KMM split export format and reverted to the MSMoney export format:

!Type:Invst
D5/17'00
C*
MSome comment
T100.00
NDiv
YSecurity

This will import the entire account. My problem with Categories was caused by the fact that I have two accounts in two different currencies, but only one Dividend Category. I created one for each currency. The disadvantage is that I need to edit and reassign the category manually.
