Mutual Fund Account

Wed Oct 13, 2010 9:37 pm
I set up a mutual fund (direct) account in KMymoney. Share price and share quantity are correct as well as the "Value" when viewing the account in ledger mode. But on the "your financial summary" screen, it shows the share balance instead of the ending value. i.e, it shows my "current balance" as $249 (this is actually the share balance!). The value of the mutual fund account is really $2000. Hence I'm not getting a true picture of my total assets

thanks.

I think it is using a value of $1 per share, because it does not have updated share prices. Have you tried entering today's price, for instance, to see if that makes a difference?

Well that was it. After right clicking on the security there was a "manual price update" option. (I had been double clicking on that thing over & over :< )

Strange that it would not have used the last price that entered in the ledger but oh well.

Thanks for your help!! :)

KMM was also using $1/share in the Investment Price Graphs. That was fixed in KMM4 and replaced by $0. Maybe we should make a suggestion how to improve the financial summary on the home page as well. Should KMM use the last known price, even if it was the purchase price? Not obvious, but I'd rather see zero if KMM cannot determine the current value than $1/share.

KMM will default to a safe value, $1. Trying to infer a price from the purchase value has proven to be very error-prone.
That behaviour has not changed in version 4.5. What has changed is a warning about the missing prices when saving.

Ok, My mutual fund account paid and re-invested a dividend this week, as I try to enter this transaction, the "enter" or "accept" buttons are greyed out! Only "cancel" is an option :-\. It will only let me "add shares" for the transaction.
