I'm a recent convert from Dual Boot Windows and Linux machine to an iMac running 10.6.4 along with Boot Camp which I still use to run my old Windows only programs..

KmyMoney was always a favorite of mine under Linux and KDE..

I've today carried out the installation of KmyMoney on my iMac following a previous thread on this site very successfully, but I now have the same problem as I once had under Linux with KDE KmyMoney.. the Date Format is normally picked up from the KDE settings and not from the base machine settings (as is usual).. the result is I now have to tolerate an American Date format in KmyMoney of YYYY/MM/DD whereas I want a UK format of DD/MM/YYYY..
Does anyone know how I can format KmyMoney with a UK Date Format when using it on a Mac and MacPorts.
I'm not great with the Terminal, so please keep any suggestions in simple terms !!
I previously posted this under a different thread but felt I needed a new post to attract a possible solution.....
Thanks,
Ron..

If you run "kcmshell4 language" using Terminal, then you should be able to change these settings. It will cause a dialog to open up. Make sure to leave Terminal open until you have closed the dialog that opens.

Thank you bcooksley,

If I run the command "kcmshell4 language" I get the following reply....

"-bash: kcmshell4: command not found"

For info I'm running KmyMoney 1.0.5 and KDE 3.5.10 which is the version downloaded and installed under MacPorts with the command " sudo install kmymoney"

LATER :-
I now have also downloaded the entire KDE package via "sudo port install kde" but still the same error message above returns.

Many Thanks,
Ron..

Then you have to run kcontrol, which was the official settings app for KDE3.

Many Thanks to bcooksley, Hei Ku and Marko for your valued advice.....

I've carried out the suggestions and now have successfully configured the UK Date Format on my MacPorts KmyMoney 1.0.5 installation by using Kcontrol..

I can also launch KmyMoney from the desktop with the Icon.

So everything works just fine now, Thanks....
Ron

So, which kcontrol command did you eventually use to make it work? ;)

Simply running "kcontrol" should be sufficient to start the KDE Control Center. I thought Macports would have been using KDE 4 by now though....

You can also try "kcmshell language"

As I said previously, I eventually succeeded with "Kcontrol".........

It appears to me (and I'm only a novice) that when I first downloaded KmyMoney 1.0.5 with MacPorts the download only included "parts" of KDE as non of the commands mentioned in this thread previously worked..
So I decided to download KDE as a separate download, then and only then, did the Kcontrol command work for me....
KmyMoney now runs on my Mac with the UK date format, brilliant......

Another important point for others who might want to try the same approach with MacPorts..
After each and every download I have found it necessary to run the commands....
"sudo port -v selfupdate" and
"sudo port -v upgrade outdated"
These commands seem to finalise each and every download. Maybe I'm wrong about that but it certainly seems to improve things....

The point made about the non availability of KDE4 with MacPorts is a good question and I shall look forward to the day it becomes available on my new Mac........

Thanks again to all,
Ron..

KDE4 is available on MacPorts.

I am currently about to try to set up KMM 4.5 with it. (It builds but is still a little far from usable.)

I'll keep the forum posted about progress.

Many thanks mkae,

(I used to run KMM 4 under KDE4 when I was on Linux Mint)

However, I shall now look forward to being able to run KDE4 along with KMM 4.5 on MacPorts when it becomes available..

Thanks,
Ron..

kmymoney4 already exists as a port, but it is still hindered with some troubles.
- cannot find oxygen iconset
- KBanking still not patched in
- probably much more to come
But if you're able and willing to test, you're invited to issue a "sudo port install kmymoney4" and let me know how it worked out on your end. :-)

Tried :-

"sudo port install kmymoney4" and got the following error....

Computing dependencies for kmymoney4Error: Unable to execute port: Can't install gwenhywfar4 because conflicting ports are installed: gwenhywfar
To report a bug, see <http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets>...

Appreciate your advice..

Unfortunately, currently Macport doesn't support KDE3 and KDE4 simultaneously. You'll have to uninstall all KDE3 packages before installing any KDE4 port.

Currently there is some issue with KMyMoney4 on MacOSX, if you use it on a "production" machine, it's not recommended to install it because it's still experimental. On the other side, if you which to help debugging, feel free to report any bug you find with the kmymoney4 Macport.

Willing to try KMM4 along with KDE4 but first, which commands will COMPLETELY uninstall KDE3 and ALL it's packages since any trace of them on the system seems to conflict with the fresh install of either KDE4 or KMM4..
