Since we're into requests these days, how about this one. It would be nice if the Investment Performance by Account also gave performance for the entire account, rather than just for the individual assets in the account. An easy way to come up with such a number is to compute a weighted average for each return (ROI, Annualized Return), the weights being the relative Amounts. You multiply the individual returns by their corresponding amounts, sum them up, and divide by the total amount. In fact, a summary number could be entered for all columns in the report for each account. The line is already there.

Small add-on: MSMoney does give a performance result for the entire account, though it may not be exactly the weighted average as above.
Caveat: I noticed that the KMM reports exclude closed accounts. I was trying to compare a 2010 report with a 2009 report, and the latter was incomplete. It is OK once the closed accounts are reopened, but perhaps the manual should mention it. |

On second thoughts, I do not think it is proper to ignore closed accounts (investments) in the reports, if the closing came after or during the reporting period. Isn't this a bug?

Yes, I've posted on this issue before with investment reporting, it does limit the usefulness of the reporting system.
Perhaps there should be an option to include closed accounts in reports. It certainly isn't right that investments are effectively invisible to the reporting system as soon as they are sold i.e. closed.

The problem of closed accounts being excluded from performance reports has not drawn any further reactions so far. This is a major shortcoming in my opinion. Anyone else care to comment?
