RESOLVED - Receiving corrupt data

Sun Dec 12, 2010 4:48 pm
Hi:
I am new to this forum. My first post.
I am using Kmymoney version 4 (3.98.1) on a KDE platform 4.4.5. Up to a few days ago everything has been working fine including the online updating of my investment accounts. However, I am now getting the error message "Receiving corrupted data" whenever I try to update any of my investment accounts. The download completes and then a pop up window appears with the error message.
I need help!
Thanks in advance.
P. S. The consistency check passes successfully.

Is that the exact message? I'm asking because there is no such message in KMyMoney's code so I'm wondering where does it come from.

First of all: 3.98.1 is rather old and was a release candidate. You should upgrade to 4.5.1.

Question: which method do you use to download the data? Is it a CSV file, or OFX online banking?

I have been receiving the exact same error on kmymoney 4.5.1 which I have it on my KDE 4.5.1 platform with PCLXOS on another partition.
I beleive OFX method is used. It is direct connection to Vanguard Group and in setting it up a few year ago, I used M$Money method in set-up screen. It has been performing well for past perhaps 2 years wo/any problem until now.
I have a snapshot of the error message, but could not figure out how to attach it here because of my newness to this forum.
Thanks

No wonder that we don't find the text message in KMyMoney:

./kdelibs/kio/httpfilter/httpfilter.cc: emit error(i18n("Receiving corrupt data."));

It's a KDE message that we just display. Could it be, that the bank changed something on their end? I am just asking, because we did not change anything in that part of the code for quite some time.

I really do not understand what has happened. In the mean time, I went back to an older laptop of mine where I have Kmymoney version 1.0.1 on a KDE 3.5.10 platform with the same data file but not updated since 11/1/2010. So, I tried to update it online. Surprise, it updated all the investment accounts with out a glitch. So, I do not think there has been any change from the bank side. But here on my mepis OS, I tried again and got the same error message.
All I can say is that this may happened after the requirement for kwallet and password encription.
BTW, I tried under my Ubuntu 10.4, with the Kmymoney version 1 (Ubuntu's latest),to update the same data file online. But under Ubuntu Kmymoney totally crashes when clicking on "update account".
Also, on my openSUSE 11.3 with Kmymoney 4.5.1 on KDE platform 4.5.2, the same data file, the "update account" is grayed out on the investment screen. Why? I do not understand! What is going on??
After 2 1/2 years without any problem, from versions 0.8 till 4, now all of the sudden a major issue! This really needs the serious attention of the developers. Let's hope that this will be resolved soon.
Thanks!

I have discovered that this may be related to the kmymoney password. I have disabled Kwallet and now when I try to update accounts, I am being asked to enter the Kmymoney password. After entering the password, I get the fore mentioned message "Receiving corrupt data". It may be that I am entering the wrong password. I tried various revisions of my password, by changing its letters (small vs capital) with no success.
Is there anyway to remove the Kmymoney password, change it or at least to find out what it is?
Seem like a stupid question, but I am asking anyway.
Thank you!

Hm, at this point you are trying to interact with the computers at your institution and they ask for your account's online (OFX) password. Not sure, but in Germany (using a different mechanism called HBCI) you generally have three trials to login until the bank locks your access completely ....

Hey, thanks for clearing things up! I had thought Kmymoney was asking for a password for accessing the software. Now, I understand it, that it is asking for my bank's account password. I had the idea that it would pick it up from Kwallet. Anyhow, I entered my account password, and BINGO :) . It seems everything is resolved now. Except that I have to enter the password on every update and for every individual investment fund. It does not pick it up from Kwallet for one or other reason.
I can leave with that.
Thanks again for your patient with me. I will mark this thread resolved.
