Dear Kmy users and developers,

how can I import a previously created account template? In version 1.02, when I try to import an account template I'm only shown a list of pre-installed templates for different countries but I'm not able to choose a file that I've created before.

Background: For every year I'd like to create a new kmy file for my finances. However, I'd like to reuse all accounts, categories and reports. (and even planned accountings if possible)

Thanks for your hints

You should copy the template to the same folder where every other template is copied.

Why do you want to start with an empty file? Several features work better when you have more info.

That was my first idea, but I couldn't find such a folder. Where would it normally be?

Like for example?

I'm afraid that the file grows over the years and that the program might get slow. Additionaly, for some administrative reasons, the booking numbers have to start from 1 in every new year. If I used the same file, I'd end up with several bookings having the same number.

forecast and budget benefit from having multi-year data. Do as you wish.

The other way to do it is to make a backup, then select all transactions per account and delete them.

I had the impression that forecast was only based on planned bookings. Am I wrong?

Right, that's how I've actually done it now. Thanks!

You are wrong. Forecast has several possible methods to calculate. One of them is scheduled transactions. Others are based on transaction history.

The number column of the ledger should not be used for invoice numbers. Those can be dropped in the memo field.

How many transactions are we talking here? I currently have ~4000 transactions with 10000+ splits and have no problems with performance.

I see, so what's the actual purpose of the number column then?

I have 500 transactions and 1000 splits...so I can go for the next seven years without problems :)

The number column is originally intended for check number
you can input other data there, though

...

Using Version 4.8.3 on Win10- Can anyone tell me where I should put my previously exported accounts template so it shows up when I select "Import Accounts?"

<edit> Finally found it and am editing & leaving the post so others know- on mine the original templates are in:
C:\Program Files\kmymoney\share\apps\kmymoney\templates\
and the user templates are in: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.kde4\share\apps\kmymoney\templates\en_US_US

However: !, On my system thess directories and sub-directories are both read only and require admin access by default, so saving directly to them via the program failed & crash the app!
Suggest saving to My documents or someplace else writeable, then copying into the appropriate language sub-dir via File Explorer.
