Windows Vista (64bit) and GPG

Sun Jan 23, 2011 11:54 pm
I'm trying to get KMM running on a Windows Vista 64bit machine with encryption. I've installed GnuPG 1.4.11 and added its install folder to the path. I installed KDE 4.5.4 (stable). I've tried the MSVC2010 64bit and MinGW4 64bit versions but get the same result:

Whenever I run KMM and try to open an encrypted KMM file, KMM crashes. At one time I had everything installed except GnuPG and at that time when attempting to open the file, KMM would popup a message box saying GPG is unavailable.

I know there are other encryption options (I could set up a TrueCrypt file to hold the KMM file), but for various reasons I'd like to get KMM working with GPG.

BTW, I can run KGpg and import keys, so it appears that GnuPG is working just fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Are you sure the GPG agent is running?

I will take a look at this problem I didn't try opening an encrypted file on Windows so far.

I don't see the agent in the task list. When I try to start it by hand it fails, complaining that it cant find libgcrypt-11.dll.

I've been doing some googling but haven't found any information on how to run the agent under windows. I also haven't been able to find a source for libgcrypt-11.dll.

Hei, do you know how to get the agent running in Windows? Thanks!

Cristian, thank you for looking into it!

I don't have nor use Windows. Cristian is the one who can help you.

I just thought that could be the problem because it behaved in a way that pointed to an agent problem.

Update:

I've also tried this under a 32 bit Vista install with Gpg4win 2.0.4. Using Gpg4win the gpg agent is running (present in the task list). However I get the same results (a crash) when trying to open an encrypted KMM file.

Also, on both machines, trying to access the KMM settings (Settings...Configure KMyMoney) results in a crash. This is also mentioned in this post: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=92801

After investigating this it turns out that gpgme, which is used by KMyMoney to handle GPG stuff is not packaged appropriately on Windows, so it can't be used rigth now. I'll have to bug the KDE on Windows developers to fix this.
