I switched over to KMyMoney on January 1. I didn't do a QIF import, but rather chose to start anew. I figured that I'd do some double bookkeeping between KMyMoney and MMoney until that first statement arives and I balance out.
Well, the statement arrived today. I have about a dozen or transactions for December. 3 withdrawals, 3 checks, and 3 deposits, etc.. The problem is, KMyMoney won't let me backdate a transaction. I can't enter a transaction for December, 2010. Or can I ? All I need to do is get those dozen transactions in and I can balance. |

You should change the opening date of your accounts. KMyMoney won't let you enter transactions prior to the opening date.

Nope.
KMyMoney won't let me change opening balance date, either. I wanted to change it to December 1, 2010. No go. |

I've said opening date, not the date of the opening balance.
Go to Accounts, right-click on the Account, Edit account... modify the opening date.

Yes. I found that in the help just now. I then went and edited it the same way in the ledger. or should i not make the change there, as well? |

You shouldn't edit that transaction manually. Just change the opening date and balance in the Account edit dialog.

Gotcha. Thanks. |

Well, that didn't work. my opening balance and the previous transactions throw things way off (Duh!).
Guess I'll just wait until next month to balance. |

when you edited the account, did you change the opening balance accordingly?

No. I used the same blance I had in MSMoney on january 1, 2011. So, I probably have to go back and change the date and opening balance to line up with the statement. |

well, yes. you have to enter the balance that matches the new opening date.

All balanced!:) I was thrown of a bit due to overlooking about three more transactions that had not cleared.
I balanced in MSMoney, as well. The accounts in KMyMoney and MSMoney now match. Pretty soon, bye-by MSMoney and Crossover (Wine). Not being able to edit prior to the opening balance date really threw me. Sincere thanks for your help. |
