OSx 10.6.6, KDE 4.6.00 and KmyMoney 4.5.3 on MacPorts 1.9.2...
I previously had KmyMoney4 working fine (correct regional settings to UK) but then uninstalled a Kodak Printer and everything went haywire.. to make a long story short, I couldn't load KmyMoney after uninstalling the printer so I decided to uninstall MacPorts and KmyMoney and completely reinstall MacPorts and KmyMoney again.. That all worked fine but now I've got my old old problem back again (US Date Format on my UK machine) On my previous (before this problem) copy of KmyMoney4 I adjusted the regional settings by Menu > Settings > KDE Language Settings.... however on this download I can select the correct menu in KMM but nothing happens, all I get is a pop-up dialog which say "Please be aware that changes made in the following dialog affect all KDE applications not only KmyMoney" plus an OK button.. When I press OK the dialog screen disappears but nothing else loads, hence unable to change settings.. Obviously a necessary utility application is not installed so can anyone help me please

Panic over.....
I installed "kdebase4-runtime" and that fixed it...........

Yep, I noticed that kdebase4-runtime has become a necessary dependency.
I meant to update the port promptly, but can do it only in a few moments. Great to see that you figured it out yourself supporting my findings. Thanks for letting us know! |

KMyMoney is the only KDE application I use and I noticed that to install systemsettings so I can set up my date format would need 82 additional packages including kdebase4-runtime to be downloaded. kdebase-runtime alone needs 81 packages.
Is this bloat necessary or is there a file I can edit or create so KMyMoney picks up the correct locale? All my other (non-KDE) applications have the correct date format. TIA

I am surprised to hear that kdebase4-runtime needs 81 packages...
I have kmymoney4 and kmymoney4-devel installed in two MacPorts installations and when adding kdebase4-runtime just now, only a few ports had to be rebuild:
So, I am not sure what's going on on your end! (But you are right: the building from scratch of all this stuff makes it a real PITA!) I remember the discussion about your date format, but I actually haven't had trouble with this so far. I just now tried to change the date format with KMM 4.5.3 and it worked with the new format after restarting KMM. I reverted it back to the original german format and after another restart it was fine again. So, no problem here. The installation for 4.5.3 has in total 145 ports, a few of them are needed by skrooge:
But I think I wrote a while back that I tweaked my installation a little to avoid that all the X11 ports have to be build, which is why we cannot compare our port numbers so easily... Anyway, I hope you get your things installed cleanly and back to work. |

Thanks mkae,
the dependencies are not for KMyMoney, but for systemsettings or kdebase-runtime. As installed KMyMoney has always worked fine except for date format. On Ubuntu 9.04 I installed Kcontrol to get the date format right which, ISTR also brought in a bunch of overhead. On 10.04 Kcontrol is replaced by systemsettings which brings in another 81 KDE packagers just so I can set my KMyMoney date format correctly . Seems to be a hammer to crack a nut - hence my question about locale settings under KDE. Sorry if any confusion, I guess I sort of hijacked the thread, but as the OP seemed to have solved his date problem I thought I might continue along the same topic even though a different OS! My knowledge of KDE is zero so I thought that maybe someone familiar with KDE internals might be reading this and be able to advise a shortcut way to set KDE locale without loading the extra packages. Sorry to offend KDE devotees, but it is just too much overhead for my hardware to run it as a desktop... Cheers

Oops, mbeenham, I wasn't aware that you weren't talking about MacPorts.

System Settings is part of KDE Workspace (previously kdebase-workspace) which means it probably has many dependencies attached to it when they aren't needed.
Note that System Settings isn't needed if you have "kcmshell4" from KDE Runtime (previously kdebase-runtime) installed. Simply run "kcmshell4 language" and a dialog should appear allowing you to edit the locale settings.

Many thanks, noted and next time I reload my OS and reinstall KMM I'll try that out.
For now I have systemsettings et al installed....
