Dear readers, dear developers,
I am currently migrating from MoneyManagerEx and for the moment, about everything suits me. However, I realized there is a transaction status missing, in my opinion: it's the void status, which ought to be used when a transaction should have been processed by the bank, but the institution forgot about it. (Yes, it may happen, it did for me just months ago). This status may also be used in the following scenario (which also happen to me, several times actually): your card is used for a transaction, but within instants that transaction is canceled (e.g. due to an amount error), and another follows up. In your statement, both transactions may show up, momentarily but some days latter, only one, since the first was was voided. Hence the use of this status. Am I the only one who would use the Void status? I searched the forum and did not see any mention of this. |

You can always simply delete such a transaction. If I understand correctly, a Void transaction does not affect your balance anyway; it's a temporary error. You can keep the status as "Not Reconciled" as long as the issue has not been fixed, if needed. Why would you want to keep it?

Valid answer: i could simply delete it as it doesn't, in deed, affect my overall balance.
I would like to keep it eventually just for record keeping: that operation did occur, even though it has been removed afterwards. |

I just ran into this situation. I messed up a check and had to void it out. I want to make sure I know the check was voided. well, I entered the transaction and gave it the number "***check number VOID***" Then I entred in an amount of zero. In the memo area i again marked the check void and gave a reason. In this case, I messed up the date.
Since it's a zero amount, I can clear it out now or do so when I balance. The only possibly confusing bit (and it's a minor point) is the "0.00" shows up as a deposit and not a withdrawal. No matter, it's zero. I also created an expense category called "VOID" Will that suit your needs as a viable work-a-round? |

One reason to store "Void" transactions is to keep track of checks by number. In fact, some banks will flag check numbers missing / out of sequence on their statements.

I would like to see a "Void" status option in KMyMoney also.
In the meantime I replace the Payee with "Void" and enter $0.00 in place of the transaction amount and mark it as cleared/reconciled. |
