You can open your check template (the source file) in your web browser to see what it looks like. You should also be able to edit it there.

If you never compiled the application it's probably best that you install from a package. You can check out Clay's PPA https://edge.launchpad.net/~claydoh/+archive/kmymoney-testing but you'l have to wait until a more recent snapshot is compiled (newer then 05-03-2011, the current version is from 17-02-2011).

You'll need to do this only if you want to use the payee's post code since adding that involved changing the code.
