Hello,
I've been using kmymoney for a long time for several accounts. My 2 main use cases are : 1) importing data from the banks 2) setting up reports In order to gain time on the first, I would appreciate the possibility to setup filters which would automatically suggest a category based on a pattern in the 'Payee' field. Anecdotically, the Payee field is filled by what the export from the bank gives me. For some time, I've renamed the values such a 'PURCHASE 03052010 Shop ABC' with 'Shop ABC' it was a never ending effort so I gave up. This causes the amount of Payees to grow quite fast. I hope it's not a performance issue... At last, a personnal experience : I've for a long time used 'Transfers' when editing transactions between my accounts. This has given me some headaches to get things right, as I've several accounts and many transfers to deal with. So instead, I've begun to treat them as deposits or withdrawals within a dedicated category that won't be used in reports. I hope this will ease the process of importing data, as I just keep the focus on one account at a time with no interferences possible. Iy you see any drawback on this, I'd be interested to hear about it ? Regards,

For your request: did you check the payee details tab called 'Default account'. If you have enough historic data, the button 'Suggest category' might give correct results.
If it comes to finding the right payee, you can check into 'Matching' tab of a payee. The list option allows to enter regular expressions. See http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/kde4/online-manual/details.payees.personalinformation.html#id318784 for more details on that. For your example a simple ".* SHOP ABC.*" would help As long as the way you substitute transfer with separate withdrawals and deposits is OK as long as you can live with it. I don't see a problem with it.

Thanks a lot, this is indeed what will help me automating a bit more my import. Now, if only my bank would offer an ofx web service, it would nearly be perfect...

Hello again,
Now I hit the corrected bug on the Payee, which takes a lot of time to show a payee. Any guess on the date of next release ? Regards
