Hello
Pls can anyone help me? I have only just v recently installed KMyMoney. Currently i am a GnuCash user, but would like to assess KMM to decide if it would benefit me to change to it from GnuCash. However i have been unable to import my GnuCash file into KMyMoney [error msg "Cannot load file C:/Users/Steffie/Documents/My Safes/Steffie 2003+ (created 20101229).gnucash. Reason: No storage object attached to MyMoneyFile"]. I do not understand this error msg; what does it actually mean?; what might i be doing wrong? Further info: I have Win7 64-bit OS, & used kdewin-installer-gui-latest.exe to download & install a Windows version of KMyMoney. Now i can launch KMM from the Start icon, & it opens ok... but its Help will not run [the incomprehensible (to me) error is "The requested help file could not be parsed:<br/>c:/programdata/kde/share/doc/html/en//kmymoney/index.docbook"]. Also, as already said, i need to import my GnuCash data to KMM ... there's no way i wish to have to manually replicate it all in KMM! Pls can anyone help to solve this fault? KMM looks potentially good to me, but i simply can't change to it from GnuCash unless i can import all my existing data. Thanks in hope, fingers crossed, Steffie. |

This is a bug that has been fixed in the stable version but no release was made since that fix. I assume that you have version 4.6.0 on Windows. The fix will be available in 4.6.1.

Hi Cristian
Oh, good news that it's been fixed My Help-About says "KMyMoney Version 4.6.0 Using KDE Development Platform 4.7.00 (4.7.0)". Will the less important problem of the Help error also be fixed in 4.6.1? Not wanting to sound too impatient, but do you have a rough idea of possible release date for 4.6.1 pls? Thank you. Steffie. |

Are you sure that you have installed the documentation also, if there is no option to choose a package for that then this could be a Windows packaging bug and it could be fixed independently of the new release.
I'd say that no more then a month.

Hi Cristian
I will make a note in my diary to check back in ~ a month to see if the new version is then available. Wrt the Help documentation... as you can tell from my posts i am a complete novice with KDE & KMM. Therefore i cannot guarantee that i did not maybe do something wrong when i last ran the KDE for Windows Installer [by which i installed KMM]. However i made sure that i selected anything that seemed to have "KMyManager" in its package name or notes... so i had imagined that all necessary documentation thus would come with the app itself. I have just re-run it now to double-check if i missed something separate for KMM Help... but there's nothing like that listed as a separate package. So, is this possibly something i'm doing wrong, or might it be a bug? If a bug, do i need to raise a completely separate Post for it, or is mentioning it here sufficient for some corrective action? Regards, Steffie. |

Please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org but file the bug under kde-windows since this a Windows packaging problem not a KMyMoney one. You can use this link to report the bug.

From the Help Manual for which you gave me the link http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/kde4/o ... index.html in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283858 , i noted this: "The KMyMoney GnuCash importer handles direct reading of standard (XML) files as produced by GnuCash versions 1.8 and 2.0." [http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/kde4/online-manual/details.impexp.html#details.impexp.gnucash]. This worries me a little, wrt my posted problem, because my GnuCash version is 2.4.7. Pls can you tell me if KMM v4.6.1 will import not only 2.0, but rather 2.x ? Ta, Steffie. |

I didn't see any reply to my previous query re will "KMM v4.6.1 import not only 2.0, but rather 2.x ?" ie, will it be everything later than 2.0, not only 2.0 exclusively? [my GnuCash version is 2.4.7]. New query - For the past few days, v4.6.1 has been released, according to site http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/index-home.html However every time I have tried to get it, I’ve not been able to find it, despite the excellent instructions page showing clearly where it’s supposed to be. The actual list of packages available, in the KDE for Windows Installer v0.9.9-4, does not include kmymoney [any version]. It lists kmid then konversation, thus skipping kmymoney. I am at mirror http://winkde.org as recommended, & then i select "stable 4.7.0" as your Help page indicates. However the downloaded package list, as already stated, does not include kmymoney. Please can you advise what i should do now? Thanks. Steffie. |

Versions take some time (sometimes months) to be included in KDE on Windows

I don't know the answer to that since I don't know if the GnuCash file format changed between 2.0 and 2.4.7.
When I've updated the available Windows version on the homepage I was looking at this build status which displays the status of the Windows release. I forgot that there needs to be an additional step to release the version that was built there by the KDE on Windows developers. I would recommend waiting for that release, it should not take long since almost everything is built. You can follow the new releases on Windows here http://windows.kde.org/ I guess 4.6.1 will be available when 4.7.3 will be released.

I've just found another way to install 4.6.1 with the existing KDE 4.7.0 installation on Windows if you would like to try it. 1. Download from http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/r ... y-4.7/kde/ the following files (depending on the compiler you've selected to install KDE 4.7.0) http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/r ... in.tar.bz2 http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/r ... ar.bz2.md5 http://winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/r ... r.bz2.sha1 if you've used MSVC 2010. 2. Run the installer With 'Install from local directory' uncheck 'Skip basic pages' 3. Select 'Package manager' mode 4. Select kmymoney to be updated to 4.6.1

Thanks for your latest advice. Unfortunately i still have not been successful. I replicated your 4 steps [with MSVC 2010 32-bit compiler]. Each step seemed to go well, except after i selected kmymoney to be updated to 4.6.1 & clicked Next, lead instantly to the KDE Installer finishing, not with any errors, but so fast it’s hard to believe anything happened. Accordingly when I launch KMyMoney, it is still only v4.6.0. I repeated this process many times to no avail. Any more ideas pls? Steffie. |

Are you sure that you clicked the update flag in the installer like in this image?

Hi Cristian
Thanks for your very fast reply! You were correct; i had not properly selected the package... i had ticked it, because i imagined that was the appropriate thing to do. When i changed it to the icon you illustrated, it then worked [although initially it told me it could not proceed due to KDE applications running. I then used the "KDE Shutdown" function [as i did not know what else to do], & after that the Installer did seem to install many files. Happily when i then relaunched KMyMoney, finally i saw it is now v4.6.1. Even better news: it has not given that original error msg [which initiated this whole Post], but instead it did import my GnuCash file. Sadly though the Help still does not work. I'm very grateful for your help. Now i can actually begin to assess KMyMoney to see if i like it better than GnuCash. Best wishes. Steffie. |

I saw that, as a matter of fact the documentation from any KDE application can't be viewed under Windows, I'll report a bug. Until this is fixed you can use the online help.
