I've noticed that the devs over with KmyMoney have set it up to have really weird behavior for auto formatting and I'm hoping there's a way to change it.
My issue is that names are auto formatted if you tab out of the Pay To/From/etc... data entry sections. For instance, I have the following: Vons VONS I'm trying to enter all new entries as Vons, but if I put in Vons and tab out of the data entry it changes it to VONS. I think that I've turned off all auto formatting in kmymoney but it still seems to be doing it. I appreciate the help in advance. |

You can go to the payees view and change you entry 'VONS' to 'Vons'.

Is this behavior planned though? Because I find it weird that clicking (with the mouse) outside of the data entry section doesn't make auto format kick in but a tab does. Also just tried your solution and it gives me a recommendation not to change it because I already have a payee Vons (says it is not recommended to have two with the same name). Is there a way to merge and then rename? Right now I have about 10 payees all meaning Vons but named differently (downloaded from different banks so they have different naming conventions).

Is it possible you have Vons as a Matching entry under VONS? Go to the Payees menu, pull up VONS and open the Matching tab. You can remove the synonym there and then rename the payee to Vons.

Yes, that is by design. The inactive auto format is just a side effect in the former case though.
Simply select the 9 you don't want to keep and delete them. You will be asked which payee the transactions should be assigned to and merging will then happen automatically. If you bank(s) provides different names for the same payee, simply use the matching feature.
