Hi All,
I'm a new user of KMyMoney and this kind of software in general, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. I would like to enter a transaction into the Expenses:Travel and Entertainment:Travel Category in a currency different than my account currency, but can't find a way of doing so. Or is it something that just should not be done? |

All accounts and categories have a currency that you can set, and you can combine them at will.
If you have a foreign currency account, just go to that account and enter the transaction, with the expense category of your choice. On save, it will prompt for the conversion rate if the expense category is on another currency.

Thanks for the quick reply!
My problem is that I do not have a foreign currency account. I live in the Euro zone. I went to Britain and bought a ticket in GBP. Your post gave me the idea of creating a separate Category for Travel costs in GBP. Indeed, now when I save the transaction a conversion box shows up. But it seems to be converting the other way. That is, I was expecting to be able to enter the amount in GBP (the currency of purchase) and have it appear in EUR in my account. Instead, it seems I have to enter the already converted amount in EUR, so that it appears correct in GBP in the new Travel (GBP) Category. I am adding the transaction on my checking account ledger, not sure there's a different place. |

You have to enter the amount in the currency of the account.
Since your account is in EU, then you have to enter the converted amount. If you had a GBP account, then you could enter the GBP amount.
