Login theme

Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:54 pm
I'm using kde4.8.2 on Mageia 2.
I wanted to change the login theme.
I went to the theme tab and selected a couple of new themes via the 'Get New Themes' tab.
But they do not show up in the list of themes in the themes window.
When I click 'Install new themes" I get an entry dialog with no indication as to where the downloaded themes have been saved.
Is something missing here?

Did you launch System Settings as root or not?

Then try to change the theme from root:
Code: Select all
kdesudo systemsettings

or, maybe, in your distribution,
Code: Select all
kdesu systemsettings

Since login themes need to be installed by root, user's «Get New Themes» doesn't affect anything. I don't know why is this tab shown to a non-root user: AFAIK, it doesn't work and can't work.

Thanks for that. I can now get downloads to appear in the themes window but to install one of them, I need to know where they are located! It beggars belief that it isn't intuitive.

Oh! I found it at:

/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes.

Thanks for you help.
