Are you affected for this bug?

Thu Apr 11, 2013 5:12 pm
I recently reported a bug related to dead keys (accented letters) which, imho, it affects everyone, but almost no one has noticed.

Is this:

Are you affected?

No, works OK... but I didn't spend 30 seconds in the menu, just the time necessary to scan them all. Running KDE 4.9.5 on a Lenovo T430 with AZERTY keyboard and some regular use of the dead keys...

There are layout variants with the deadkeys disabled. Maybe you are switching to such a layout?

Could you try? for longer than 30 seconds.

Ok, gave it another try... and didn't reproduce by just waiting over a minute... however I found a way to reproduce it in a matter of seconds. It's not the time you spend in the menus, it's what you do in them. It happens all the time if I:
  • Open Kate
  • Click "File"
  • Scan down the File menu
  • Scan up back to "File"
  • Move to "Edit"
  • Scan down "Edit"
  • and leave the menu on the side
  • click in the text area.

In other words, this: http://i.imgur.com/sGUDyiC.png

  • I used "File" and "Edit" but can also reproduce it between "Edit" and "View" and any other pairs of menu bar items (I tried a few more)
  • Using one single dropdown (even going there twice afer closing opening it again) isn't enough.
  • Deadkeys are back if you elicit some dialog window: "Save as" or "Help/About"

So, no I can't confirm you bug, but I have a much nicer one :)

KDE 4.9.5 on Kubuntu 12.10 AMD64, AZERTY keyboad and default "fr" layout.

Went to bugs.kde.org. YAFU's description is better than mine. Moving from a menu bar entry to the next is enough.
