Plan for Eigen 3.3 release?

Thu Oct 09, 2014 4:44 pm
Is there any roadmap or specific plan for the release of Eigen 3.3? Unless I am mistaken, the develop branch now has AVX support for some time. Is there any plan to stabilize the branch for a stable release? Or is there still features planned and under development? AVX has been out for more than a couple of years now (Sandy bridge was out Q1 2011). I now only use the the development branch Eigen as there is still no AVX support in the stable version. It works fine most of the time, however, it will be great if we have a stable, bug-fix only branch out, which users can build their application with. On newer machines, it seems that there is quite a big performance gap between Eigen 3.2 and MKL, where there is little before. I can only imagine it has something to do with lack of AVX support

The devel branch also includes a very heavy refactoring of Eigen's internals that need some time to be stabilized, but the major difficulties are past, so we can expect 3.3 within a few months and an alpha asap to encourage people to give it a try to track possible regressions.

Is there a Road Map in general for the project?

Like what features / optimizations are now worked on etc?

Thank You.
