Like martinvi, I am mainly a KDE 3.x user.
I've just gotten an Asus 1101 netbook and will attempt to get Kubuntu working tonight. (Ubuntu 9.10 works fine.) I have read some of the guides and will make a decision tomorrow, Saturday, about a first project. Update: The Kubuntu install went quickly. Screen a bit cramped, but it will do for this effort. Since I am going to need to enable a printer for the netbook Kubuntu 9.10 (KDE 4.3.2) it makes sense to take on printer_config. To show my insider ignorance: 1) I did not find a page for printer_config in a search of Userbase (is that what I should expect?) 2) Is the printer_config that I am signing on to document the same as the "System Settings > Printer Configuration" from the KDE Kickoff button? 3) What question should I be asking that I have not figured out yet?

Not sure if I should be posting about this hear, but since it is related to KTTS I might as well. I'm looking through the handbook and there is a section about speaking notifications that can be enabled through the configuration, it seems to be an older version as that doesn't seem to be available in the recent version. Does this feature no longer exist?
Never mind I've solved it, I'll make sure to include how to get this working in the wiki. |

OK - writing from your own experience is always useful.
I would have expected it to know that it's mentioned on Applications/System, but maybe the search ignores red links. A red link means that the page doesn't yet exist. You will be creating it
Yes
We'll figure those out as we go along I see that you've already made a start. Ask again if you can't work out the next step. I'll give you help if you get stuck, but won't keep interrupting if you are working OK.

Sorry to hear of your problem - userbase is the least of your problems at the moment. Get things sorted and come back when you are ready.

The new test box is up und running with OpenSUSE 11.2 (and therefore KDE 4.3) installed.
Since irina_r joined the class, I'll go to stand-by and wet my feet with KDE 4.3-customization (That theme ... oh my!) |

Your choice, martinvi. You got back quicker than expected, but I'll handle it if you want to carry on now. OTOH, if you want a little more time first, I'll sign you up for the repeat course in a few weeks.

Here's the current stage of the KTTS userbase page: http://userbase.kde.org/User:MTGap
I still have to work on the Configuration and Integration with Other Desktop Applications sections. |

That's the way to go. Right now, I'm exploring KDE 4.3 and take notes of some differences to the older version. I'm not even sure, that the annoying subset of differences is a KDE- or an OpenSUSE-issue. The nice subset ... well, it's nice, no matter who did it. So, the next few weeks, I'm busy with some serious configuration hacking to get my bland, high-productivity, no frills, no nonsense theme back. After that, I'll be much more useful because of the hands-on experience. |

I've been watching it develop Just a few comments: Watch for small details - you said that KTTS can also be configured in SystemSettings - you should mention the Accessibility module. "You will need to have a voice installed" - this worried me at first reading, as I had no idea how to. Eventually I realised that the screenshot under Configuration was showing this. Ideally you need to either get the screenshot immediately next to the comment, or, if that's not feasible (and it may not be here) to do a 'see screenshot under Configuration' type of comment. My third point is with regard to the screenshots. Some of them, to be useful, need enlarging so that you can clearly see the text items. The way to do this is to add the parameter '|thumb' inside your image declaration. This has two useful effects - first, clicking on the image gets you quickly to a full-size version of the image, and secondly, you can add a caption. I've made the changes to your image that shows adding a voice, as an example. It's not always necessary, but for something like this where you have either possibly handicapped or just new users, it's often a good idea to have a Tip near the top of the page, stating that images are clickable, but you need to use the Back button to return to the page after viewing. It's going really well - very pleasing.

@algotruneman: Generally a good start. A couple of comments:
The introductory image + descriptor looks non-standard, with regard to existing pages. Please use the format {|"text-align:center" cellpadding="2" |[[Image:YourScreenshot.png|250px|thumb||'''Your descriptive text''' |} Note that the text will become bold as well as be centered. When using bullet points, they show off better if just slightly indented. A single colon indents two spaces - hardly noticeable as an indent, yet making quite a difference to strengthening the bullet-point. Otherwise, looking fine

@annew
I think the first full draft is ready to judge. I am not happy with the IP blank image at the 400px width. Is 500px possible?

Yes, I think it needs only very minor adjustments now, before moving it to its final home.
The first problem is partly caused by the need to use an icon rather than a screenshot in the introductory table - the text tends to sit uncomfortably beside the icon, in too much space, so controlling the width would help. Apart from that, my brainfart in giving you only half the command is to blame. Also, the text needs to be boldened, to be in keeping with other pages. That brings your introductory table to this: {|style="text-align:center" cellpadding="2" width="85%" |[[Image:Printer.png|250px|thumb]]||'''Use this tool to connect your computer to a printer and set up appropriate options''' |} Sometimes the natural balance dictated by the text means that you need to fiddle with defaults, and I'd be inclined to increase the cellpadding after the Note icon to "4". The line "I choose AppSocket/JetDirect" is tending to get buried between the two images. Add another empty line either side of it, and it shows much more clearly. Now to the image, where you were unhappy about the size. A full-colour screenshot of 500px or more would be overpowering as well as slow to load. Your image, though, is much simpler, and this is a case where I would definitely bend the 'rules' - remember they are guidelines, not absolutes. In fact, I think it works best at 550px. Please try those changes. If you are then happy with the result, we are ready to move the content.
